Creating Brighter Beginnings: RMHC Philippines Opens Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center in Marikina

Arvin Jerome Piedad (Diocesan Shrine and Parish of Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados) Photo from Right (back): Austin Torres (Public Affairs Senior Manager, McDonald’s Philippines), Atty. Jiji and Alex Fernandez (Owner Operators, McDonald’s Philippines)

McDonald's Philippines, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Philippines, and the City Government of Marikina celebrate the opening of the 57th Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center in Barangay Sto. Niño, Marikina City, creating brighter beginnings for young learners and reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing early childhood education in Filipino communities.

A daily struggle for many Filipino parents is juggling work and making sure their kids receive high-quality early childhood education. For Monica Dela Cruz, a Barangay Sto tricycle driver. This reality is all too familiar to Niño, a mother of three from Marikina City.

Monica balances taking care of her kids with working long hours on the road as the family's main provider. Her three-year-old son starts preschool this year, marking another significant milestone for her family. This is a new chapter that also entails new obligations and goals.

"For us at McDonald’s and RMHC, making a difference in communities, especially through education has and will always be part of who we are and what we do—from early childhood education, all the way to preparing students to be workforce ready.“ ~Marie Angeles, Executive Director of RMHC Philippines

Stories like Monica's highlight the significance of easily accessible, community-based early childhood education while reflecting the realities faced by many hardworking Filipino families.

On June 26, 2026, in Barangay Sto, McDonald's Philippines and Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Philippines officially opened the 57th Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center in recognition of this need. Marikina City, Niño. The learning center offers young children a secure, caring, and engaging setting in which they can develop the fundamental literacy, numeracy, and socioemotional skills necessary for formal education.

"The opening of the Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center reflects our shared commitment to making quality early childhood education more accessible for every child. Ito po ay magiging daan upang mas marami pa sa ating mga kabataan ang magkaroon ng pagkakataong makatanggap ng dekalidad na edukasyon sa isang ligtas, maayos, at nurturing environment.” ~Mayor Marjorie Ann "Maan" Teodoro of Marikina City

Another significant achievement in McDonald's and RMHC Philippines' ongoing efforts to increase underprivileged communities' access to high-quality early childhood education is the Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center. McDonald's and RMHC continue to provide educational opportunities that support children's growth, families' success, and communities' strength, with 57 Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Centers currently serving Filipino children nationwide.

"Malaki talaga ang pasasalamat ko sa McDonald’s Philippines at Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Philippines sa pagbigay ng Bahay Bulilit Learning Center sa Brgy. Sto Nino, sa Marikina sapagkat matitiyak kong makakatanggap ng tamang edukasyon ang aking bunsong anak.” ~For parents like Monica

One learning center at a time, RMHC Philippines continues to grow its network of 57 Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Centers nationwide while staying true to its mission of empowering families, providing children with high-quality early childhood education, and fostering stronger communities.

Also present at the turnover were (from left) RMHC Executive Director Maricar AngelesManila Vice Mayor Angela Lei Ilagan Atienza-Valdepeñas, and Manila Department of Social Welfare Head Jay R. Dela Fuente.

Earlier in April, the 56th Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Center was formally turned over to the City of Manila by McDonald's Philippines and the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Philippines.

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso and other municipal officials received the key to the newest Bahay Bulilit Learning Center from McDonald's representatives at a formal ceremony at the McDonald's United Nations–Del Pilar location. This Bahay Bulilit, which is situated in Boystown Manila, is the city's second such facility after the one in Quirino.

Bahay Bulilit Boystown, the nation's newest Bahay Bulilit Learning Center, actively meets the community's young learners' needs for early childhood care and development. Over 5,000 preschoolers are served annually by the 56 Bahay Bulilit Learning Centers spread across the country.

“Today marks an important milestone for us with our Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit efforts in Manila. We remain committed to working alongside partners to support workers, families, and communities in meaningful ways. The opening of the second Bahay Bulilit in Manila is also an expression of our continuing partnership with the city, not only through business, but also through programs that address community needs, such as education and employment, among others.” ~Margot Torres, McDonald’s Philippines Managing Director

Joining Mayor Domagoso at the event were Manila Vice Mayor Angela Lei Ilagan Atienza-Valdepeñas, City Administrator Atty. Eduardo Quintos XIV, and Manila Department of Social Welfare Head Jay R. dela Fuente. Also present at the turnover were top McDonald’s officials, which included Torres; Ben Marasigan, Vice President for Human Capital Group; Maricar Angeles, RMHC Executive Director; and Howard Lance Uyking, Corporate Communications Director.

During the same ceremony, McDonald's employees, especially senior individuals who participate in the company's inclusive hiring program, M for All, received financial help from Mayor Domagoso. As part of the city's social relief efforts, the Biyayang Bigas Para sa Maynila rice distribution was carried out under the 2026 Local Government Support Fund in collaboration with the Office of the President.

McDonald's and the City of Manila have been collaborating closely since 2019 to offer older citizens economic opportunities. Currently, 26 company-owned and franchised stores in Manila employ up to 51 older persons.

McDonald’s Grand Reunion Brings People Back Together for the Holidays

For many Filipinos, Christmas is the most exciting time of year.  It's the time for long-awaited grand reunions, when family and friends finally gather together after months or even years away.  It's one of the most treasured traditions in the country.  However, not everyone has the opportunity to organize such events.  Some people spend the holidays apart from their families, missing out on the joys of being together.

This year, McDonald's Philippines intends to bridge that gap by providing free celebrations for certain groups.  Known as "Grand Reunion at McDo," this statewide holiday effort will transform select McDonald's Party Rooms into festive locations for meaningful reunions taking place simultaneously across the country, giving the warmth of the season back to those who need it the most.

“By creating spaces where groups can once again gather meaningfully, McDonald’s taps directly into the Filipino cultural values of pagsasama-sama, pagsasalo-salo, and gratitude. It offers a simple yet heartfelt reminder that those who help make Christmas special for others deserve their own celebration too. In a season that can often feel overwhelming with crowded schedules, growing expenses, and emotional demands, Grand Reunion at McDo offers a refreshing alternative, a warm, uncomplicated, and inclusive holiday gathering that doesn’t require grand preparations.” ~Ada Lazaro, Chief Marketing Officer at McDonald's Philippines

How to be part of McDonalds’ Grand Reunion

Consumers are encouraged to visit the Grand Reunion post on McDonald's Philippines' Facebook page and tell their story about why they want to reunite, what kept them apart, and what makes their relationship worthwhile.  McDonald's will host groups of up to ten people on December 8 from 2-4 p.m., with two groups per party room for a total of 20 people.

Participants will be chosen based on how their stories exemplify the spirit of unity throughout the Christmas season in addition to having a touching and unique story.  Participants can select the McDonald's location of their choice.

Boxes of Honey Butter Chicken McDo, enhanced with a "shake, tear, and sprinkle" moment utilizing Garlic Parmesan and Snow Cheese Powder, will be distributed to each group. The dinner becomes something to enjoy together thanks to this straightforward ritual. In addition to leading light games and toasts, a McDonald's "Happiness Host" will assist in making the event feel a little more memorable and shared.

Reinforcing Filipino values

Lazaro added the initiative aims to reinforce Filipino values of bonding and connection during the Christmas season by offering a venue for meaningful reunions.

Chicken McDo Brings Everyone Closer at Every Table with the Heartwarming Invitation: ‘Chicken McDo Tayo!’

The straightforward word "Kain tayo," which literally translates to "Let's eat," has a deeper meaning than that. It is the literal love language of the Filipino people, expressing warmth and inclusivity and serving as another way of saying, "You are welcome here."  You are a part of this. Naturally, godparents, lifelong friends, dependable neighbors, and even coworkers who feel like family can all be included in this act of belonging.

As Filipino food writer Doreen Fernandez once noted, “To invite someone to eat is to extend not just food, but yourself—your home, your life, your very sense of kinship.” It’s a tradition that turns every meal into an act of connection.

With its new Much Malaki, Much Pinasarap Chicken McDo, McDonald's honors the spirit of unity.  It's large, crispy, and juicy, making it the ideal option for sharing with loved ones, whether it's for a laid-back weeknight meal, an exciting Sunday lunch, or a friend's unexpected visit.

“Every meal is an opportunity to bring people closer. Filipinos know that food is best enjoyed when shared, because it’s never just about the flavors on the plate. It’s about the togetherness and the memories made in between bites. With Chicken McDo, every table becomes a space where everyone is welcome, seen, and valued, and where a simple meal stays with you even after the last bite.” ~Ada Lazaro, McDonald’s Philippines Chief Marketing Officer

Chicken McDo transforms everyday dining into communal events full of coziness, humor, and connection because it is designed for moments that matter.  Every dish conveys the same message as "Kain tayo," whether you're dining in, getting takeout, or having it delivered: you belong here.

Now, McDonald’s invites everyone to share that message in the most delicious way possible -- “Chicken McDo tayo!”

More and more Filipinos are loving the much malaki, much juicier, much crispier, and much sulit Chicken McDo! Now, P-Pop sensation SB19 joins the cause, declaring, “Atin ‘to!” for the new and better Chicken McDo that tastes as good as it looks.

Superstars on the rise, SB19 members Pablo (John Paulo Nase), Ken (Felip Jhon Suson), Stell (Stellvester Ajero), Josh (Josh Cullen Santos), and Justin (Justin De Dios) have just been announced as the quick service restaurant’s newest endorsers, a promising start  of an exciting collaboration.

SB19 made their mark as the first Filipino and Southeast Asian act to be nominated at the Billboard Music Awards for Top Social Artist category. Today, they follow in the footsteps of the unkaboggable Vice Ganda, who last year helped McDonald’s relaunch Chicken McDo to great acclaim. More recently, Kapuso royalty Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes starred in a musical extravaganza that generated even more hype for Chicken McDo, which also became viral for its huge, “dinosaur-size” portions.

“We’re ecstatic to welcome SB19 to the McDonald’s Philippines family. To have this supergroup join us in showing love for our much bigger, much juicier, much crispier and much sulit Chicken McDo is very exciting. Definitely, there’s much more to look forward to in this campaign.” ~Adi Timbol-Hernandez, McDonald’s Philippines’ Assistant Vice President for Corporate Relations and Impact

Days before the announcement, McDonald’s Philippines released a teaser on their social media pages hinting at a new “Ninang” to their next endorser. Loyal members of SB19’s fan base, known as A’tin, quickly guessed it was the upcoming endorsement. Soon after, an exclusive video for A’tin was released, featuring a specially-written single showcasing the band’s love for Chicken McDo and encouraging their fans to try it out and embrace it as their own.

The centerpiece of the campaign is McDonald’s one-piece Chicken McDo Sulit Busog Meal, which includes rice and a drink for the low price of Php99 in all stores nationwide. With their favorite band joining the thousands who’ve discovered the new and better Chicken McDo, SB19 fans will definitely have something to look forward to this August!
