How to make your holiday break more awesome

There’s only a limited number of days we can spend away from deadlines every year. Sure, we get days off on long weekends or special holidays, but it’s only during Christmas time that we get to truly pause, spend quality time with our loved ones, and catch up with the things that we love to do.

The holiday season is an excellent time to relax and forget about work and school, even for just a short while. A two-week break may pass by quickly, so it’s important to make every day count and be intentional with your time. This way, you get to have a more productive and meaningful break that you’ll always remember.

Catch-up with family and friends
Holidays are hectic, but they’re also the most fun with the company of the people you care about. Attend get-togethers and reunions as much as you can. Stay connected with your family members who are miles away from home through voice calls and video chats. These moments are great reminders that you are loved, no matter how much time you spend apart.

Carefully decide what gifts to get for your loved ones
You ought to sit down and think about what your loved ones would actually like to receive if you want to give them the most meaningful presents this year. Make a list of everyone who helped make this year particularly great, and use this as a moment to give them gifts to show your appreciation and love. Spend less time wandering through the mall and more time creating memories.

Pamper and spoil yourself, too
And finally, never forget the most important person that should be on your holiday list: you. Maximize the time you have this season by treating yourself with a well-deserved me-time—get to the hobby you’ve always been putting off, visit your favorite massage place, or buy yourself something new. It’s always a good idea to take breaks every once in a while, especially if it means doing things that make you happy.

Let this holiday season be a reminder that the best things in life don't have to be the most expensive ones. Oftentimes, you find awesomeness in your family's smiles, simple occasions shared with friends, and quality time with yourself. Of course, these moments are best remembered when you capture them with a reliable smartphone, just like Samsung’s latest Galaxy A Series devices.

Whether it’s for your loved ones or for yourself, the Galaxy A04s, A04, and A04e are ideal smartphones to make every moment count this holiday season. These devices will let you maximize your experience and do more as you embrace awesome moments. The Galaxy A04s is packed with a 50MP Triple Camera and 128GB expandable storage of up to 1TB perfect for taking snapshots with loved ones on Christmas Eve. While the Galaxy A04 and A04e sport a MediaTek Helio P35 Octa-core processor and 5,000 mAh long-lasting battery life ideal for daily-drivers who love to be productive over the holiday season.

The Galaxy A04s, A04, and A04e are available for as low as PHP 6,490 SRP at Samsung.com, Samsung Experience Stores, select Authorized Samsung Stores, Lazada, Shopee, Abenson.com, MemoXpress Online, and other accredited retailers.

“We are excited to partner with SMAC at the most joyful time of the year so we can bring cheer to our fellow Filipinos who continue to suffer due to involuntary hunger. Now, it’s easier for shoppers to share their blessings to the needy, bring food to the table, and get assistance for decent livelihood as we mark this Christmas season post-pandemic.” ~Yoly Crisanto, Globe Group Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer

On top of this, SMAC members who will shop select items at the SM Store, SM Beauty, SM Appliance, Kultura, Surplus, Our Home, Baby Company, Crate and Barrel, Levi's, The Body Shop, Forever21, Ecco, and Miniso will earn up to 1,000 EXTRA SMAC Points, and half of the EXTRA points they earn will be donated to the movement starting December 15, 2022 until January 15, 2023, in time for this season of giving.

Kyndryl Reveals Eight Tech Trends to Watch in 2023

Kyndryl (NYSE:KD), the world’s largest IT infrastructure services provider, today reveals the most influential trends that will impact IT decision-making in 2023 and beyond. As technology evolves and complex business problems continue to emerge, IT professionals will face new challenges in the coming year. Some changes will fuel innovation, while others will spur debate around AI ethics. And others, such as cyber threats, will force companies to mitigate and meet these risks head-on.

Kyndryl works with companies in ASEAN and around the world to help them tackle their most pressing business objectives in modern ways. Here, Wilson Go, Managing Director, Kyndryl Philippines shares the eight technology trends that every business leaders should know about.

1. Cyber resilience will overtake cybersecurity as top security concern
With 88% of company boards now seeing cybersecurity more as a business risk than a technology risk, according to a Gartner survey, cyber resilience will no longer just be a problem for Chief Information Security Officers in 2023. More likely, every level of an organization’s executive suite will be part of the conversation and equation.

It’s not just an IT discussion. Companies must understand that they’re more likely to endure a cyber event than a physical disaster, and they must protect all areas of their business. That could lead to the hottest security job of the year: Cyber Resilience Officer.

2. AI ethics will become imperative
Responsible AI solutions — areas that address trust, risk, ethics, security and transparency — will become more mainstream. We’ll see solutions that target personalized insights — whether it is related to aspects such as credit risk, underwriting or simply recommendation engines for dynamic pricing or influencing buying decisions.

Similarly, data observability will become crucial and the key to scaling AI for business. Without a robust, secure data foundation and DataOps, it will be hard to scale and democratize data consumption.

3. The cloud will drive innovation
Companies that had embraced cloud adoption prior to the COVID-19 pandemic fared better than those that hadn’t in terms of their ability to pivot their business models and capitalize on new opportunities and revenue streams. Experts said the same will hold true in the event of an economic downturn. Cloud adoption provides the quickest path to innovation and gives companies much more flexibility to run their businesses in hard times.

4. Companies will embrace distributed cloud
We expect companies to increasingly take a distributed cloud path as they embrace a federated model between cloud and edge. There are many advantages of a distributed model, including the ability to better visualize and harness data across an organization to drive value and enable new Web3 capabilities. In a distributed cloud environment, workloads are aligned with specific resource locations in order to meet compliance needs and performance requirements or support edge computing, while being centrally managed from a public cloud provider.

5. Cloud networking will grow
As more enterprises shift workloads and business to the cloud, they are using different means of connectivity to the cloud than what was traditionally built in the past. We have seen an increase in service providers that are virtualizing network infrastructure and providing it as a service to enterprises. However, a lot of these companies do not have a good direct-to-enterprise channel. There will be an increasing demand to integrate the connectivity with managed services, and help enterprises manage the multi-networks.

6. 5G private wireless to move beyond industry 4.0
While the manufacturing, petrochemical, gas and energy industries have successfully deployed private wireless and edge solutions to drive business efficiencies and cost savings, other segments like retail have lagged.

Without question, 2023 will be the year 5G private wireless use cases and testing take hold across other industries, with retail leading the pack. From enabling cashier-less payment, real-time analytics, personalized promotions, asset tracking and supply chain optimization, private wireless and edge will be key to unlocking the next generation of the shopping and CX experience.

7. Personalized digital employee experiences are must-haves for hybrid work
The digital workplace has transformed into an environment where employees choose what channels they want to use to engage across organizations. The challenge many organizations face is ensuring that this new environment is seamless, delivers a great experience for employees and at the same time, enhances collaboration and organizational culture. In 2023, digital experiences will take a top spot on the recruiting checklist and will also impact retention.

8. Mainframe will solidify its role in hybrid cloud strategies
Enterprises will accelerate mainframe modernization for fuller integration into a hybrid cloud environment.

Faced with reduced IT budgets and skills challenges, companies will take an end-to-end approach to get the most out of their platforms through modernizing on, integrating with hyperscalers, or moving workloads off the mainframe — versus only a singular approach to move off. They´ll also leverage the expanding integration capabilities of the cloud platform to access mainframe data and apps to address new business requirements with faster time to value.

Deaf advocate entrepreneur Francis Reyes is TOYM finalist

An entrepreneur whose advocacy is to provide equal opportunities and professional growth to the Philippine Deaf Community is one of the 21 finalists in this year’s The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awards.

The TOYM honorees were announced during a gala night in Pasay City hosted by the award organizers Junior Chamber of Commerce (JCI) Philippines and the TOYM Foundation. Unlike previous iterations, the TOYM recognized 21 finalists for this year before disclosing the 10 awardees.

One of the finalists in the business, economics and entrepreneurship category was Francis Carl G. Reyes, founder of the Caravan Food Group Inc. (CFGI), a food and beverage company that aims to introduce new food concepts for the Philippine market as he believes that good is only as good as one’s overall experience.

Caravan Food Group carries three brands: Overdoughs, a homegrown pastry shop that offers the best selling OD Mini Chonky Cookies and other pastries like Crinkles and donuts, among others; Elait!, which offers artisanal rolled ice cream and the first rolled yogurt; and RAW Natural Juice Bar, an all natural juice that offers nutritionally designed cold-pressed juices.

Reyes’ advocacy was inspired by his experience when he was young. A deaf person assisted him while he was in a clothing store, and he was amazed by his sincere customer service. From then on, Reyes wanted to incorporate this in his food business.

This deaf inclusive advocacy is made possible through the partnership with orgnizations like De La Salle College of San Benilde – School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies and Hand & Heart.

To date, Reyes has employed 30 deaf partners and counting. The comprise more than 50 percent of the overall employee count. He always believed in their capabilities to help the company improve its service, products and food concepts.

Reyes believes in continually developing his people. Thus CFGI provides skills enhancement and leadership training programs for its employees. Soon he plans to promote his exemplary deaf partners to Team Leaders and Supervisors.

“It was one deaf guy who really showed me the epitome of customer service. I wanted to recreate the experience in this concept so I decided to hire deaf people. I wanted everyone to feel the warmth and realize how capable these deaf people are.” ~Francis Carl G. Reyes, founder of the Caravan Food Group Inc. (CFGI)

Health Undersecretary Beverly Lorraine Ho and comics artist Manuel Luis “Manix” Abrera were among the 10 TOYM awardees.

Ho was was named TOYM in the health and medicine category along with fellow physicians Ronnie Baticulon, a pediatric neurosurgeon and Ramon Lorenzo Luis Guinto, a public health advocate.
