Tanduay Rhum to Number 1 Spot Anew

Tanduay Asian Rum Gold topped the list with a gold medal. Silver medals, meanwhile, were awarded to Tanduay Asian Rum Silver and Boracay Cappuccino Flavored Rum. Tanduay Double Rum and Boracay Coconut Flavored Rum both received bronze medals. Tanduay has maintained its leadership position in the industry, it has been declared the World's Number 1 Rum for the third consecutive year. International partnerships and global expansion contributed to the increase in global sales.

Early this year, Tanduay‘s international partnerships and global expansion bolstered its worldwide sales, making it the world’s top-selling rum for the third consecutive year. Tanduay won five medals from the Beverage Testing Institute.
“Being declared the World’s Number 1 Rum for the third year is an achievement not just for Tanduay but for the entire country as our products are proudly Philippine-made using materials sourced locally. We celebrate this feast with our fellow Filipinos and we thank our international partners who have helped us market Tanduay globally. At present, we are working toward bringing Tanduay to Europe as rhum sales in the region outstripped gin. The value of rhum in Europe is growing faster than volume, which is very encouraging because that suggests premiumisation leading the industry to long-term growth prospects. Nowadays, drinkers have a more developed taste when it comes to their drink of choice. Aside from rhum, we are also exploring other spirit categories to supply markets here and abroad.” ~Paul Lim, Tanduay Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing
The liquor firm is currently working on expanding its product portfolio for both local and international markets. It was in 2018 that Tanduay first dislodged rival Bacardi and other known brands to hold the top spot.

Tanduay‘s international partnerships and global expansion bolstered its worldwide sales, making it the world’s top-selling rum for the third consecutive year.

Tanduay Rhum sold 20.5 million cases in 2019, an increase from its 20.1 million cases in 2018, according to Drinks International magazine which hands out the awards.
“Once again, Philippine giant Tanduay has topped the rum chart, has continued its steady growth above the 20m-case threshold. The brand branched out into Singapore and US territory Guam while, at the same time, nourishing its vast domestic market…”

Tanduay is currently working on expanding its product portfolio for both local and international markets.

Tanduay products are currently available in:
  • Florida
  • New York
  • New Jersey
  • Illinois
  • California
  • Wisconsin
  • Tennessee
  • Michigan
  • Guam in the U.S
And will be available in:
  • Hawaii
  • Indiana
  • Nevada
  • Minnesota
The company has also successfully entered the markets of:
  • China
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Singapore
  • Australia
It was in 2018 that Tanduay first dislodged Bacardi on the top spot of the world’s number one rum list. The following year, the Filipino rum maintained its leadership against 153 other brands in the category.

Allianz PNB Life Partners with reach52 to Address Protection Gap in PH

Allianz PNB Life Partners with reach52 to Address Protection Gap in PH

Allianz PNB Life is seeking to help address the protection gap in the Philippines by partnering with reach52, an award-winning social enterprise that has made healthcare more accessible to rural communities.

According to the Insurance Commission (IC),  insurance penetration remains low in the Philippines at only 1.69 percent as of September 2019.

Through this partnership, both Allianz and reach52 will work together to help close the protection gap and bring physical and financial health to more Filipinos.

Allianz PNB Life Partners with reach52 to Address Protection Gap in PH

“The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has made all of us vulnerable to critical illness and financial instability. Through our partnership with reach52, we are hop-ing to arm Filipinos with the knowledge and protection to better prepare for unexpected crises. The insurance industry has been responsive in providing the benefits under these claims. However, reported claims are still low considering the number of identified COVID-19 positive cases in the country. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it's that securing one's health has to be one of the most important things to do for us and for our families. This pandemic has shown us the importance of having good physical and financial health. With the work we are doing with reach52, we are hoping to help Filipinos achieve both.” ~Alexander Grenz, Allianz PNB Life President, and CEO

To help address the protection gap in the country, Allianz PNB Life is partnering with  reach52 – an award-winning social enterprise that has made healthcare more accessible to rural communities in the Philippines, Cambodia, and India.

In June, the Insurance Commission (IC) released the results of an industry survey designed to assess the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and determine how the insurance industry responded to claims. The classification of the claims included medical benefits, death benefits, or other benefits, such as travel inconvenience, travel cancellations and delays, and cash assistance, among others.

The IC survey revealed that the total Covid-19 related claims paid by the industry amounted to P326.95 million, with medical benefits comprising the bulk of the amount at P258.8 million.

According to the IC, insurance penetration remains low in the country at only 1.69 percent as of September 2019. Currently, reach52 operates its on-the-ground services for over 500 communities in the Philippines, Cambodia, and India, with further countries in the pipeline, and have partnerships with over 20 leading global and regional organizations.
“Fifty-two percent of the world’s population still don’t have access to healthcare, and reach52 has been constantly working in finding solutions to help address this. In the Phil-ippines, we are glad to have found a partner in Allianz. With our companies’ combined expertise, we are confident we can achieve a lot to help close the protection gap in the country.” ~Edward Booty, reach52 Founder and CEO
They deliver screening, health worker training, and affordable medicines, insurance, diagnostics, and consumer health products in rural regions that existing services don’t reach. This is achieved through establishing health systems and services in these under-served areas, powered by their mobile apps and tech platforms, community-based workforce, and partnerships with the public and private sector.
Allianz and reach52 will be holding an online media press conference, where both companies are expected to announce the beginning of this major undertaking. Early on, Allianz is already looking into expanding its portfolio to include more microinsurance products.

An Ergonomic Chair
A good office chair is an excellent investment. It minimizes back pain and prevents injury in the long term. Get a chair that’s the right height to maintain a comfortable posture. Remember, with less pain, there’s more focus!
A Good Lamp
Lighting in the work environment has a significant effect on productivity and concentration. The ambient light needs to be bright enough to read comfortably. Choosing the right kind of lighting prevents the risk of eye strain, headaches, and fatigue. Natural light is the best, but a desk lamp ensures the area is well-lit for ultimate productivity.
An External Monitor
A wide external monitor or a dual monitor setup means more space for all the tabs on the screen. Make sure to get one with high resolution and to keep the monitor height at eye level to prevent back pain from too much slouching.

A Fast and Reliable Router
Working from home means the intense usage of a reliable internet connection. Faulty connections are extra frustrating, especially during video calls. With more people using the internet at home, a good router can boost connectivity and productivity.
Making these small changes makes a huge difference in productivity and quality of work which eventually leads to less stress and more motivation to enjoy what the new normal brings.

Shopee Live Streamers Fashion Sellers

“With more sellers venturing online to grow their businesses, Shopee is redoubling its efforts to allow sellers to connect and engage with their consumers better. We are happy to hear uplifting stories from our sellers on how Shopee Live has benefited them. We will continue to innovate our platform and build on existing in-app features to help sellers accelerate their business growth online.” ~Ruoshan Tao, Head of Marketing at Shopee Philippines
Three Fashion Sellers Share How Their Online Business Grew with Shopee Live. Shopee sellers share their experience on how Shopee Live has changed the way they do business.
As e-commerce continues to grow in the Philippines, more sellers are exploring new ways to reach out and engage with potential customers online. In particular, Shopee online fashion sellers like Licel Manese, Alpha Joy Sto. Domingo and Nikka Solomon have leveraged live streaming as a unique and interactive way to showcase their products and engage with their consumers.

From Banker to Live Streamer
“I enjoy doing live streams. When I started, I only had 30 to 40 viewers, but the more I did it, the more viewers I gained. Now I constantly have more than 100 viewers per stream. With Shopee Live, I’m building an online community and connecting with potential friends. It’s not just about selling your items but rather building a bond with your buyers.” ~Nikka Solomon
Nikka recently left her work at a bank to focus on her shop on Shopee. As a new seller, she got inspired by other Shopee sellers who live stream their products on the app. Following their footsteps, she decided to use Shopee Live to connect and build a long-term relationship with her buyers and viewers. At the start of her Shopee Live experience, she streamed for four hours, but now,  she takes up to six to eight hours due to the high demand of her viewers.

As she utilizes Shopee Live, Nikka’s orders have grown and she receives more than 100 orders per live streaming. Recently, she and her family celebrated a milestone as she reached 10,000 followers on Shopee.

From Youtube Vlogger to Shopee Live Star

“I was on my maternity leave and was very curious about the live stream feature. I tried it for my shop once, and it was effective. After doing it a few times, I realized that it’s an excellent platform to sell my fashion items and is the most effective way to connect with my buyers. With Shopee Live, viewers can easily place their orders. Shopee Live helps me manage my inventory, and I get a lot of orders via Shopee Live since I get more than 200 viewers every time I go live. I highly recommend joining Shopee Live because it’s very easy and offers a seamless and convenient shopping experience for the viewers.” ~Alpha Joy Sto. Domingo
Alpha Joy has a full-time job in a BPO company and also sells on Shopee for additional income. As her online business grew, she quit her job and focused on building a career around online selling. Since then, she has dedicated all her time and efforts in promoting her products on Shopee. She tried video blogging on Youtube, but when Shopee offered a live streaming feature, she decided to switch to Shopee Live and focused there.
Shopee Live has become an effective marketing tool for Alpha Joy to promote her products and connect with her buyers. What started as a part-time gig grew bigger each month, and she now receives bulk orders.

From Brick and Mortar to Online Store
“I wish I had joined Shopee earlier. They are very accommodating and helpful during the entire process - and Shopee Live is a key feature in my business’ growth because it allows me to go live anytime, and I will always have an audience. I can give my buyers the ‘in-store experience’ as I can answer their queries about the product, just like when they’re in an actual shop. When I started, I had a limited number of viewers, but now, I get about 100 to 200 comments on Shopee Live, mostly consisting of bulk orders from my resellers from Visayas and Mindanao.” ~Licel Manese
Before onboarding on Shopee, Licel Manese had difficulties getting sufficient sales from her physical store. With the encouragement of her supplier, she decided to set up an online store on Shopee. To her surprise, her online store grew in just less than a year. Licel was looking for a way on how she can acquire more buyers when she found out about Shopee Live while browsing through the Shopee app.
Through Shopee Live, Licel is able to offer an immersive shopping experience for her consumers while showcasing her products and engaging with her buyers in real-time.

Shopee 8.8 Fashion Sale
From July 23 to August 8, shoppers can look forward to these three sellers’ live stream sessions at the upcoming Shopee 8.8 Fashion Sale. Users can enjoy free shipping for selected stores, deals as low as ₱8, mix-and-match bundle deals, and ShopeePay fashion vouchers. Making a Comeback Post-COVID by Jasper Ong

As a testament to the resilience of Filipinos in times of adversity, our fellow "Pinoys" continue to find relevant ways to fuel economic activity and augment the family income. Mr. Jasper Ong, President of Hanabishi Philippines – one of the leading appliance makers in the country. Enumerates some key business insights that could help other companies adapt to current pandemic conditions and recover faster post-COVID.

Optimizing E-Commerce
From small households selling home-cooked meals through Facebook and big companies establishing their own online shopping sites, businesses have turned to e-commerce to reach customers. At Hanabishi, we quickly put a system in place once the quarantine period began. In less than two months, our e-commerce facility was up and running through our website, www.myhanabishi.com. We also provided our customers with the option to have their orders delivered or picked up at our warehouse.
Recognizing Your Company’s Strengths and Capabilities
Our business may not be directly about health and safety, but we were able to adjust to the new normal by relying on our strengths and capabilities.
We noticed that more households are making their homes the center of their lives, that they are finding ways to make their lives comfortable. They have started to pursue their passion for the arts, baking, cooking, among others to make their lives less stress-free and more comfortable. Having the best home experience became their goal.
When we learned that interest in baking products has increased, we knew that our baking equipment will be in demand so we made sure that they would be readily available through our website. The same thing goes for our cooking equipment when we noticed how Filipinos have started to bring the Samgyupsal experience to their homes.
We considered all these in reviewing our operating model. We relied on our strength as an appliance manufacturer and boosted our capability to supply what the market demands.
Implementing Short-Term Interventions and Streamlining Non-Core Assets
Cutting costs, securing liquidity, and adjusting production has helped us maintain our operations during this period. Conserving resources can help businesses last longer.
Reinventing value chains must also be considered as the pandemic has greatly disrupted the supply chain of global trade. Businesses must learn to streamline their non-core assets and activities.
Learni0ng to Adapt
As I mentioned before, we saw Filipinos flex their entrepreneurial skills in the past months. We saw them selling their own recipes online, creating new businesses to augment their income. It is inspiring to see how quickly our kababayans adapted to the new normal. Speed and adaptability are the competencies we need during a time of crisis.
Creating a Recovery Plan
Once consumer confidence returns, we must be ready to respond. Have a recovery plan that should be able to address what happens in the pandemic. Re-engineer your business to provide clarity and genuine stability amid the chaos and take time to improve the skills of your people. Our managers should be able to envision our objective. To do this, we business owners must provide them with the necessary knowledge and confidence to further their execution skills.
Recognizing That Recovery Will Be Gradual
There’s no quick-fix solution to the challenges that businesses face today. As the world adapts to the changes brought about by the pandemic, businesses should be mindful of consumer sentiment.
We have learned from past crises that it takes months and years to return to what we deem as the normal way of doing things. Recovery from the 2003 SARS pandemic, the 9/11 attacks, and the 2008 financial crisis took some time, and we can expect the same thing with the COVID situation.
More importantly, we have learned from these crises that we will eventually recover. Getting there may take some time, but we will get there. Our resilience and faith in our abilities and in one another will see us through.

Herbalife Nutrition Survey Reveals Filipinos Need to Close Nutrition Knowledge Gap

Dr. Chin Kun-Wang, Member, Nutrition Advisory Board, Herbalife Nutrition
“The results of the quiz and the survey show that there is a significant nutrition knowledge gap among Filipinos. We hope to help close the gap to empower them with the nutrition knowledge they need to make better nutrition choices. This is a good sign, so the next step is helping them achieve this. Our peak bone mass (max bone size and strength) is dependent on calcium intake and reaches its peak by age 30. However, sufficient calcium intake throughout life can reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Protein powder can be as good as protein from natural foods if derived from high-quality sources. For instance, soy protein from soybeans is a complete protein, providing a full range of nine essential amino acids for the body’s nutrition requirements.” ~Sridhar Rajagopalan, Senior Director, Sub-Region Head, and General Manager of Herbalife Nutrition Philippines

Sridhar Rajagopalan, Senior Director, Sub-Region Head, and General Manager of Herbalife Nutrition Philippines
Did you know that only 19% of Filipino consumers got 50% of the answers correct in a general nutrition knowledge quiz conducted by premier global nutrition company Herbalife Nutrition? The Philippines’ score was lower than the Asia Pacific (APAC) average of 23%.

The quiz was administered as part of Herbalife Nutrition’s Asia Pacific Nutrition Myths Survey 2020, which was conducted in March with 5,500 respondents from Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. To test the nutrition knowledge of the survey participants, the quiz included a total of 48 “True or False” questions spanning nine nutrition areas - general nutrition, protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, caffeine, weight management, and breakfast.

Dr. Chin Kun-Wang, Member, Nutrition Advisory Board, Herbalife Nutrition
Only 7% among those surveyed said that they were extremely confident about their nutrition knowledge. Fifty-four percent claimed that they were only somewhat well-informed.

10 Rules in Boosting the Immune Health
  1. High-quality protein supply
  2. WHole cereals intake, rich supply of vitamin B complex
  3. Vegetables, fruits, and mushroom
  4. Garlic, onion, and ginger into a diet
  5. Less oil and fried foods: reduce 20% of oil intake everyday could increase 40% of immune function
  6. Less sugar intake. Prevent to drink or eat sugar-added drink and foods Reduce 100 grams of sugar intake everyday could increase 50% of white blood cells function
  7. Probiotics
  8. Multiple vitamins and minerals supplements
  9. One apple or pear per day
  10. Hydration

What Filipinos Got Right and Wrong About Nutrition Knowledge

Majority of the Filipino respondents (85%) falsely believe that one needs sufficient calcium intake at any age to optimize peak bone mass for bone health.

When it comes to fats, 68% got it right that fats provide the body with energy but only 42% correctly believed that it helps the body absorb vitamins.

80% correctly said that exercise helps the body rebuild muscles and increase lean muscles. However, 51% of falsely believe that protein powder is not a healthy source of protein as compared to a protein found in natural foods.

94% of the Filipino consumers were right in their belief that fruits and Vitamin C supplements can help boost immunity and resistance to infection. Among the APAC respondents, they were the highest in this belief.

Online Myths and Misinformation: Top Barrier to Gaining Accurate Nutrition Knowledge

While 47% of Filipino consumers believed that it is extremely important to be educated with proper and accurate nutrition knowledge, they also said that too much misinformation and myths online prevent them from gaining accurate nutrition knowledge (39%).

The other top barriers were lack of information from government websites and health authorities (22%) and the lack of information from healthcare professionals (17%).

Filipino consumers, however, expressed that they believe in the importance of balanced nutrition. It is among the top three nutrition advice that they were most interested in along with how to improve ailment/condition through nutrition and managing weight through nutrition.
