AirAsia Philippines, opens new path for Filipinos to explore Europe

AirAsia Philippines is strengthening its international connectivity by providing Filipino travelers with access to Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur, expanding travel possibilities beyond its core Asian network and toward destinations across Europe.

Through AirAsia’s Kuala Lumpur network, passengers from the Philippines can connect through Kuala Lumpur before continuing to Istanbul. The route provides an additional travel option for guests visiting Türkiye while also creating access to other European destinations through onward connections.

The connectivity is reinforced by AirAsia’s codeshare partnership with Pegasus Airlines, Türkiye’s largest low-cost carrier (LCC). The partnership allows travelers connecting through Kuala Lumpur to Istanbul to continue their journeys across an expanding network of European destinations.

“For many Filipinos traveling abroad is a lifelong goal. And Europe remains the quintessential dream destination. We recognize that high costs and complex visa processes can make European travel feel intimidating. As AirAsia Group expands its vision beyond ASEAN, our commitment remains the same - removing barriers and bringing these dream destinations closer to guests with our Fly-Thru service and partnership with Pegasus.” ~Anna Lu Victoria, AirAsia Philippines President and CEO

AirAsia’s Kuala Lumpur network provides Filipino travelers with onward connectivity from Istanbul to several European and regional destinations, including London, Moscow, Ankara, Zurich, and Athens, among others. The expanded network creates additional routing possibilities for passengers traveling from Southeast Asia to Europe.

The connectivity comes as more Filipinos look toward international destinations for leisure and cultural experiences, from visiting historic cities and discovering different cultures to pursuing long-planned European holidays.

AirAsia currently operates 12 flights weekly between Manila and Kuala Lumpur, while the Cebu–Kuala Lumpur service operates three times weekly. These routes provide access to AirAsia’s Kuala Lumpur hub, which serves as an important connecting point within the airline’s international network.

Further improving connectivity, AirAsia plans to increase its Kuala Lumpur–Istanbul (KUL-SAW) flights from four to seven times weekly by February 2027. The higher frequency will give travelers greater flexibility when planning connections between Southeast Asia and Europe.

The expanded services underscore AirAsia Philippines’ efforts to broaden international travel options for Filipino passengers, with an emphasis on making travel beyond Asia more accessible and affordable.
