Grand Westside Manila Bay recently extended its sustainability and community engagement efforts to Tambo Elementary School through a meaningful Sampaguita planting initiative. Together with teachers, parents, and students, hotel associates planted 45 Sampaguita plants as part of a collaborative effort to promote greener surroundings and celebrate the country's national flower.
The activity was led by General Manager Joe Xavier Fijardo, bringing the hotel team and school community together in support of environmental awareness and Filipino cultural heritage.
“It's wonderful to see our team working alongside the students, teachers and parents. Through activities like this, we hope to encourage greater appreciation for our environment and Filipino heritage while building lasting relationships with our community.” ~Joe Xavier Fijardo, Led by General Manager
This initiative reflects the hotel's continued support for Megaworld Global Hotels & Resorts' (MGHR) MEGreen sustainability programme, alongside the group's advocacy to preserve and highlight the Sampaguita as a symbol deeply rooted in Filipino culture and hospitality.
At the centre of this commitment is MGHR's Sampaguita Brand of Service, which embodies the values of love, honour, dignity, and healing. These principles influence the group's hospitality practices and inspire its efforts to create meaningful and positive experiences not only for guests but also for the communities around its properties.
Beyond the planting activity, Grand Westside Manila Bay also recognises the value of empowering its associates to become active contributors to community development. Team members are encouraged to participate in volunteer programmes and internally organised fundraising initiatives, reinforcing the idea that meaningful hospitality extends beyond hotel operations and into the communities they serve.
“What makes this special is seeing our associates come together and give their time to the community. We want to continue encouraging this spirit of volunteerism, where caring for others becomes a natural part of our everyday culture.” ~Rodolfo Bazar II, Area Director of PMD at Grand Westside Manila Bay
Megaworld Global Hotels & Resorts continues to strengthen its environmental advocacy through Sampaguita planting initiatives across its properties, working alongside educational institutions and community organisations. These collaborative activities promote awareness of the national flower's cultural significance while encouraging sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. Supporting these efforts is the group's MEGreen programme, which includes sustainability projects and the collection of Sampaguita seedlings for future planting activities.
The partnership with Tambo Elementary School further extends this advocacy to the younger generation. Through hands-on participation in the planting activity, students are given an opportunity to connect with nature, appreciate the importance of environmental conservation, and develop a stronger sense of responsibility for their surroundings

Grand Westside Manila Bay also aims to maintain and expand its community and environmental programmes through sustained associate engagement and fundraising initiatives. These efforts help nurture a workplace culture where giving back and supporting meaningful causes become part of the hotel's broader commitment to the community.
As the Sampaguita plants grow within the grounds of Tambo Elementary School, they stand as meaningful reminders of the relationship being cultivated between the hotel and its neighbouring community. The initiative reflects a collective commitment not only to environmental care but also to safeguarding Filipino heritage for generations to come.
Through these continuing efforts, Grand Westside Manila Bay brings Megaworld Global Hotels & Resorts' Circle of Happiness philosophy beyond the hospitality setting, sharing the warmth of Filipino service through meaningful connections, community partnerships, and acts of care.
