Ajinomoto receives EPR recognition from DENR for Sustainability Efforts and Environmental Stewardship

In photo are Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) Chief Sustainability Officer Ernesto Carlos (middle); flanked by (L-R) DENR Undersecretary for Policy, Planning, and International Affairs Jonas Leones; DENR Secretary Raphael Lotilla, President of Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability (PARMS) Jess Reyes; and DENR OIC Assistant Secretary for Environment and Concurrent Director of the Environmental Management Bureau Jacqueline Caancan.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources' (DENR) 2026 Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) Recognition Program: Celebrating Achievements and Milestones recently awarded Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) a Special Citation for Obliged Enterprises.

APC's SariCycle® program, an inventive and adaptable plastic trash collection project that enables local micro-entrepreneurs, including Sari-Sari store owners, to take the lead in the community in decreasing plastic waste and pollution, is at the center of this accomplishment. By working together to provide recycling facilities with better feedstock or materials that are clean, sorted, and more appropriate for processing, this program encourages small companies to become agents of environmental change.

APC collaborates closely with accredited partners, including the Quezon City Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability Department (QC CCESD) and Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies (BEST), to support this program. Through these partnerships, APC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to sustainability by delivering initiatives that are inclusive, collaborative, and impactful.

As an FMCG firm, APC's strategy of integrating sustainability into the core of their operations and enabling communities to take action alongside the company is validated by this DENR accreditation. The prize serves as a reminder that sustainability becomes a shared accomplishment rather than only an objective when communities and businesses collaborate.

Furthermore, this acknowledgment strengthens APC's 2030 Roadmap, which aims to enhance the healthy life expectancy of 1 billion people while drastically reducing its environmental effect by 50%.

APC thinks that sustainability promotes better local economies, empowered micro-enterprises, and healthier environments in addition to regulatory compliance. By proving that corporate leadership and national advancement can coexist, the corporation also establishes the benchmark for ethical business practices in the nation.

A former Ajinomoto Foundation scholar, Dr. Giselle Grace Lim-Co Yu Kang, led the discussion on Transforming Taste and Nutrition: Practical Innovations for Dietetic Practice at NDAP’s 70th Annual Convention in Manila Hotel.

The Nutritionist-Dietitians’ Association of the Philippines (NDAP) marks a historic milestone as it celebrates its 70th Annual Convention from February 18-20, 2025, at Manila Hotel. The event brought together the country’s leading experts in nutrition to discuss the latest advancements in health and wellness in nutrition.

As a Platinum Sponsor of this landmark event, Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) proudly reinforced its commitment to nutrition, sustainable diets, and public health. With decades of expertise in food science and taste innovation, APC joins this year’s convention to emphasize the importance of nutrition without compromising taste. The highlight was umami and the role it plays toward better dietary practices.

A key highlight of APC’s participation is the symposium "Transforming Taste and Nutrition: Practical Innovations for Dietetic Practice," featuring Dr. Giselle Grace Lim-Co Yu Kang, an esteemed expert in biochemistry and a proud former scholar of the Ajinomoto Foundation through APC. Beyond the symposium, APC also welcomed Ms. Andrea Wakita from Ajinomoto Co., Inc. or AJICO Global Communications Department, along with 15 members of the Asian Young Dietitians Network (AYDN), fostering international collaboration among nutrition professionals. The delegation collaborated with local experts to exchange knowledge and share best practices in sustainable nutrition.

By engaging with dietitians, healthcare professionals, and wellness advocates, APC continues its mission to provide science-backed, sustainable, and flavorful nutrition solutions for Filipinos.
