Sony Launches FE 100-400MM F5.6-8 OSS, The Perfect Super-Telephoto Zoom Lens for Hobbyists

Delivering Outstanding Mobility and Excellent Image Quality Across the Entire Zoom Range

For 35mm full-frame AlphaTM E-mount cameras, Sony presents the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS, a super-telephoto 100 mm–400 mm zoom lens that you can conveniently carry to get closer to the moments you can't. This new lens is lightweight and small, weighing only 654 g (approximately), despite its super-telephoto capabilities shooting up to 400mm. The most recent optical design, which uses two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and two aspherical elements, achieves excellent image quality throughout the whole zoom range. Additionally, the lens has built-in optical image stabilization to enable handheld shooting in the super-telephoto range and fast, accurate AF (autofocus) performance to help capture moving subjects like birds, sports, trains, and aircraft.

Key Features of FE 100-400MM F5.6-8 OSS in Detail:

  • Compact, Lightweight Design for Easy Handling, Even for First-time Super-Telephoto Users
The lens weighs about 654 g and has a 100-400 mm super-telephoto zoom range, making it incredibly light to carry. Its design facilitates quick framing and ease of handling during handheld shooting in addition to its exceptional portability. By utilizing the "compression effect," which causes the distance between close subjects and far-off background elements to appear closer together, users can enjoy landscape photography exclusive to super-telephoto lenses while also capturing powerful images of subjects that are challenging to approach, like birds and sports scenes. With the lens supporting focal lengths of up to 800 mm, or up to 1,200 mm in APS-C mode, you can double the distance you can capture when using an optional teleconverter.

  • Sharp Detail through the Entire Zoom Range means you can Capture the Details That Matter
Its optical design, which includes two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and two aspherical elements that reduce chromatic and other aberrations and provide clear rendering throughout the entire zoom range, provides excellent image quality regardless of the distance users plan to shoot. Its 9-blade circular aperture and spherical aberration optimization allow the shooting subject to stand out impressively in a natural, soft bokeh. Furthermore, with a maximum magnification of 0.41x and a minimum focusing distance of 0.86 m at the telephoto end and 1.13 m at the wide end, users can enjoy taking close-up pictures of flowers, insects, and other close-up subjects in addition to distant ones.

  • Fast, precise AF and built-in optical image stabilization for moving subjects
The lens can capture moving objects thanks to the linear motor drive's quick, accurate, and quiet AF. When paired with the full-frame mirrorless camera α9 III, the lens also allows for high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at up to about 120 frames per second.

Even when photographing far-off subjects, the integrated optical image stabilization effectively reduces camera shake during handheld photography and facilitates steady framing and shooting. Additionally, the lens is compatible with the camera body's coordinated image stabilization control and Active Mode image stabilization, allowing for high-quality still and motion picture shooting with less blur even when using a handheld camera. Additionally, it facilitates the breathing compensation function of the camera body, which corrects angle of view changes brought on by changes in focus position during filming.

  • Usability and Reliability Built for Outdoor Adventures with Dust and Moisture Resistance
Its zoom lock switch, focus mode/range switch, and adjustable focus hold button allow it to operate quickly in a variety of shooting situations and facilitate comfortable ultra-telephoto shooting. Additionally, a design that is resistant to moisture and dust allows users to shoot confidently even in the event of unforeseen weather changes. The included lens hood aids in preventing ghosting and flare, which can lower image quality.

Sony Introduces the FX2 Compact Camera, Expanding Cinema Line’s Versatility for Creatives

The new FX2 has the look and operability of Cinema Line cameras with the ability to shoot high resolution photos and comes equipped with an articulating eyepiece.

FX2 Compact Camera Pre-Order Promotion

Sony is proud to announce today the latest addition to its established Cinema Line family, the FX2 (model ILME-FX2). The FX2 will offer a seamless entry point into the broader Cinema Line range, giving greater cinematic expression to independent creators, or crews needing a versatile camera.

"The FX2 was created based on user feedback and is engineered with unique features to support filmmaking, a new eyepiece and improved usability for versatile production needs. The FX2 is intended to continue the Cinema Line’s goal of preserving authentic emotion in every shot and empower creators across all areas of content production." ~Kanta Yamamoto, Director of Digital Imaging Division, Entertainment, Technology & Services Business Group, Sony Electronics

FX2 Features: Full-frame Filmmaking and Stills capabilities

Sony is proud to announce today the latest addition to its established Cinema Line family, the FX2 (model ILME-FX2). The FX2 will offer a seamless entry point into the broader Cinema Line range, giving greater cinematic expression to independent creators, or crews needing a versatile camera.

The camera is equipped with Dual Base ISO for S-Log 3 of 800 and 4000, enabling optimal image quality across varied lighting conditions. The FX2 ISO sensitivity for video can be expanded up to 102400, making it ideal for low-light environments. The camera also supports multiple recording formats for flexible post-production workflows and records in 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra and supports formats like XAVC S-I DCI 4K at 24.00p, among others.

The FX2 benefits from an extended shooting capability, with up to 13 hours of continuous recording in 4K 60p2 , thanks to its internal cooling fan and effective heat dissipation structure. The FX2 also offers variable frame rate settings, allowing up to 60 fps in 4K (for a maximum 2.5x slow-motion effect) and up to 120 fps in Full HD (for up to 5x slow motion). It supports Log shooting in Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, and Flexible ISO modes, offering versatile workflows for different production needs. To further the cinematic expression of the camera, creatives can import up to 16 user LUTs for on-camera preview for video, enabling precise colour monitoring on set.

Filmmakers can also easily and quickly create in-camera cinematic looks, with S-CinetoneTM set as the default, along with a range of Picture Profile and Creative Look presets. A desqueeze display function is available, supporting both 1.3x and 2.0x anamorphic lenses for accurate framing.

Improved usability for comfortable solo operation

The FX2 features the same compact, flat-top design as Sony’s Cinema Line FX3 and FX30 cameras, ensuring familiarity and compatibility across setups. Built-in mounting points (UNC 1/4-20 x3) support a cageless configuration and ability to mount on a tripod, offering greater flexibility for rigging. A top handle (model XLR-H1) enhances mobility and control, especially during handheld or dynamic shooting. Its lightweight, portable build – measuring 129.7 x 77.8 x 103.7 mm (W × H × D) and weighing around 679 grams – makes it ideal for solo operators or small crew productions.

The camera offers advanced focus features designed for precision and creativity. Its new Real-time Recognition AF delivers fast and reliable performance, with improved accuracy for human subjects, although its intelligent subject recognition extends to animals, birds, vehicles, and insects, with an Auto mode available for effortless detection. For even more control, the camera includes tools like focus breathing compensation, AF Assist, and customisable autofocus transition speed and sensitivity, giving creators the flexibility to fine-tune focus for expressive, cinematic imagery.

The camera comes with Active Mode and Dynamic active Mode, new to Cinema Line. Both modes are designed to ensure smooth and steady handheld shooting.

The FX2 Auto Framing feature automatically crops and tracks a subject to keep them in a prominent position when the camera is mounted on a tripod, producing footage that looks like it was shot by an experienced operator. The Framing Stabiliser function automatically keeps the subject in the same position within the frame, which can be useful, for example, when the camera operator is moving alongside the subject.

From a still image perspective, the camera features an additional log shooting option with a newly added ‘Log shooting’ menu. This feature allows creators to shoot high-resolution 33MP stills, optimised for colour grading in post-production3. The FX2 also offers smooth operation with a MOVIE/STILL mode lever, allowing for a quick switchover between still and movie shooting. Depending on the selected mode, the displayed menu items will automatically adjust. Additionally, mode selection is made easy with a long press of the Fn button, which recalls and changes the shooting mode.

FX2 Features: Improved but familiar hardware inherited from Sony’s cinema cameras

For enhanced immersion while the user is shooting, the camera features a new high-resolution 3.68-million-dot tiltable EVF4, which comes with a viewing angle optimised for video production and comes bundled with a deep eye piece. It also includes a vari-angle 3.0-type touchscreen LCD for easy framing from any position. The controls are intuitively placed on the top panel and around the grip, with tally lamps for recording indication. A customisable “BIG6” (home) screen displays frequently used parameters such as FPS, ISO, shutter speed (angle/speed), Look presets, white balance, iris or ND filter status. In response for the growing amount of content shot in vertical 16: 9 for social media platform purposes, the FX2 also has vertical information displayed while shooting. Additionally, the handle-included model (ILME-FX2) comes with two XLR/TRS terminals and 3.5 mm stereo (mic) mini jack enabling professional 4-channel, 24-bit digital audio input.

The camera offers extensive expandability and connectivity options, including an HDMI Type-A terminal capable of outputting up to 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit video and 16-bit RAW5 for high-end recording and monitoring. For seamless data transfer and remote control, it supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz6) as well as wired LAN via a compatible adapter7. Additionally, the USB Type-C®︎ port enables SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps data transfers and supports USB Power Delivery (PD), while built-in USB and network streaming support enables live broadcasting and remote production workflows8.

Social responsibility

Aligned with Sony's ambitious 'Road to Zero' initiative, this product supports the company's vision for achieving a zero environmental footprint by 2050. The manufacturing process reflects this commitment through facilities powered entirely by renewable energy sources9. The camera system incorporates comprehensive accessibility options including a Screen Reader function10 and Display Magnification to support visually impaired users across an expanded range of menu items. Additional intuitive controls enhance usability for all shooters, featuring:
  • Real-time recognition autofocus that reduces manual adjustments
  • Streamlined touch interface operations for direct menu navigation
  • Tactile button design with clear differentiation

These inclusive design elements ensure professional imaging tools remain accessible to creators of all abilities while maintaining full operational capability

In a Rush for the Holidays? Here’s a Last-Minute Christmas Gift Recommendation for You and Your Family

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The festive spirit’s fully taking over with bright decorations everywhere. For most people, it’s the season of togetherness and celebration, with many wanting to make the most of the holidays. They might have already prepared their presents as early as September, but most people would do it at the eleventh hour when the most-wanted items go on sale. The last-minute shopping frenzy adds to the excitement of the holidays, and the heartfelt preparations outweigh whatever hiccups that can happen during the season.

If you’re like most people still preparing their gift list, then you’re in luck: we’ve come up with some suggestions on what to give this Christmas for your special someone. Because the more, the merrier, right?

For the Passionate Ones Who Feel the Beat Within

We have kids attending dance or voice classes after school, and even adults who want a healthier and more active lifestyle. They get in the zone where their heart beats loudly. For these go-getters, they need something that fuels their creativity for long hours. That’s why oftentimes you’ll see people wearing headphones or earphones to listen to their favorite music or to simply find inspiration in podcasts. This gadget will be a perfect item as these individuals take on the world.

Our recommendation: The 1000XM5 headphones and earbuds will do just the trick, offering top-tier sound and comfort at the same time. These industry-leading noise-canceling headphones from Sony also have adaptive sound control. With up to 24 hours of battery life for their earbuds and 30 for their headphones, productivity is guaranteed. Now at Php 17,999 and Php 15,999 for a limited time, grabbing these as gifts has never been easier!

Want more options? Check this out: the WF-C510 earbuds with a compact build for all-day sound. It’s currently listed at Php 3,299 for the delightful December season.

One for All, All for One: The ULTimate Year-End Gift

We all look forward to holiday parties, because you know how parties are in the Philippines - it’s just more fun! Sooner than you know it, slots for work meetings get replaced with party reservations on your calendar. Isn’t it the best feeling? These parties are a time for stories and laughter. No matter the situation, a powerful speaker runs in the background, becoming your ultimate party essential.

Our recommendation: There are a bunch of speakers available that also have lights for your party needs. What they don’t have, however, is a dedicated wireless microphone. The ULT Tower 10 is a complete package for a unique Filipino party. It can serve as a makeshift amplifier for your guitar, with even user-friendly speaker controls. Equipped with wheels for better mobility, it’s definitely a must-have for every occasion.

Too on the nose? Don’t worry - they have the compact wireless ULT Field 1 speaker that performs just as well, so make sure to visit Sony and other authorized dealers in time for their holiday promos.

An Eye-catching Treat For Moms (and even Dads)

‘Tis the season to slow down from the busy world and (finally) spend time with folks at home. While most of us are wrapped up with work or school, our moms face their challenges at home with things we often miss - from caring for the family to managing the household. As a small yet rewarding treat, they catch up on watching their favorite shows or movies. Even dads like to sit back and share a laugh at comedy shows. At an age where screens come in all shapes and sizes, TVs remain a staple item at home; it is a symbol of togetherness and relaxation for the family. And for the holidays, we can make gatherings more meaningful and cozy with a multi-functional TV.

Our recommendation: opt for Smart Mini LED or OLED TVs, like the Sony BRAVIA 7 Mini LED TV and BRAVIA 8 OLED TV. These two technologies provide the best solutions. The 7 Mini LED TV’s brightness is unmatched, while there’s that crisp balance when watching movies as the OLED 8 gives you closer to real blacks. The BRAVIA 7 offers more size options with a starting net price of Php 156,999. Meanwhile, BRAVIA 8’s quality and sleek design push the best cinematic experience, beginning at Php 131,299. Both big screens give a fantastic look either way and will be on sale in time for Christmas.

A bonus: Complete your home entertainment set-up with the BRAVIA Theatre Quad for Php 144,449.

And Snap! Take a Shot of Life’s Priceless Moments

There’s something so beautiful and magical about Christmas that makes your surroundings pleasantly warm. The experience comes in different forms for all of us, but one thing is certain: we’d want to immortalize these moments as they come. From champagne toasting shared with loved ones to singing songs as a chorus, we get the urge to take a snap of these scenes now more than ever before.

While capturing memories has become more convenient now thanks to smartphones, a camera offers better quality for intricate moments. What’s exciting about gifting cameras is that we get to see how others treasure the moments from their perspective. Its emotions remain raw, yet powerful in every snap.

Our recommendation: You might consider gifting a camera that is as versatile as its future owner, so the Sony A7C II mirrorless camera is an ideal gift that delivers photos of professional quality. It can also record 4K videos without the heavy weight of a professional camera that confuses novice camera users. This can be paired perfectly with the FE 16-25mm F2.8 G and FE 24-50mm F2.8 G lenses. The latest ZV E10 II vlogging camera is also a good alternative with its flip-out screen that can adjust to portrait and landscape recordings. It’s a good tool for folks who enjoy content creation on social media like TikTok and Instagram.

Bonus gear recommendations: Consider gifting a gear boost with an ECM-M1 Shotgun Microphone or an ECM-S1 Streaming Microphone, which is fit for closed spaces like singing or content shooting.

With all these recommendations, bear in mind that finding the perfect gift is all about matching thoughtfulness with usefulness. Some of these gadgets may lean more on style or functionality, but they’re gifts to brighten the season nonetheless. So for this Christmas, we hope you rekindle the joy and spirit of giving priceless items. At the end of the day, the best gifts come with love and sincerity - making this season truly memorable.
