Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI) Batangas Plant sets benchmark for Manufacturing Excellence and Sustainability

By continuing to innovate and expand its Sto. Tomas plant, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI), the nation's sole producer of PepsiCo beverages, is solidifying its position as a leader in the Philippine beverage sector.  Within its nationwide network, the Tomas, Batangas Plant is one of the most cutting-edge and environmentally friendly establishments.

PCPPI's ambitious transformation path includes expanding operations and integrating industry-leading standards in food safety, production, environmental stewardship, and community involvement. The Sto. Tomas Plant is a prime example of operational excellence and growth driven by purpose, demonstrating these goals.

Innovation and Quality

The Sto. Tomas facility is where the Southern Tagalog Regional Office (STRO) is located.  The Tomas factory is now PCPPI's most sophisticated bottle production location.  The company's latest PET line, which is devoted to making carbonated soft drinks in highly recyclable PET bottles, increases production capacity and strengthens its dedication to sustainability and circularity.

With seven fully operational lines, the facility currently produces the well-known PepsiCo drinks that Filipinos have been enjoying for more than 70 years.  Every bottle made demonstrates PCPPI's rigorous adherence to global standards for food safety, quality, and operations.

“Every bottle tells a story of quality, innovation, and purpose. The Sto. Tomas plant is a shining example of our commitment to building a future-ready organization that delivers both business excellence and meaningful impact. This transformation is no longer just a program: it’s a movement. We are building a resilient, high-performing organization guided by courageous people and enabled by world-class systems. ~Phyo Phyu Noe, PCPPI President and CEO

Commitment to Food Safety

PCPPI is the epitome of excellence, exemplified by dedication and constancy.  12 of the company's manufacturing sites across the country, including Sto. Tomas plant.  The highly sought-after Food Safety System Certification (FSSC), a widely accepted standard, was recommended for Tomas.

Because it validates the company's ability to manufacture safe food and packaging products, reduce operational risks, execute resource optimization initiatives, fortify supply chain partnerships, and maintain strict food safety protocols, FSSC certification offers PCPPI a distinct competitive edge.

The FSSC-recommended facilities include plants in Santo Tomas, Muntinlupa, San Fernando, Rosario, Davao, Bacolod, Naga, Zamboanga, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Tanauan, and Cebu City.

Sustainability at the Core

Sustainability practices are deeply embedded in the Sto. Tomas plant’s daily operations. PCPPI’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) milestones highlight its progress on multiple fronts:
  • 13,000 metric tons of post-consumer plastic collected under the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Law
  • 237 million liters of water saved through conservation and reuse technologies
  • 44% reduction in inventory losses thanks to improved supply chain and planning systems

These accomplishments reflect PCPPI’s unwavering focus on water stewardship, plastic circularity, and energy efficiency, proving that growth and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

Building the Future

Following the conclusion of its Annual Stockholders' Meeting, PCPPI reiterated its transformation plan, which is based on responsible business practices, innovation, and agility.  In 2025, the Sto. Tomas plant is preparing for the next stage of life.  A major facilitator of this trip is the Tomas plant.

The Sto. Tomas plant goes beyond superior production quality.  Through employment creation, business support, and community engagement, Tomas Plant actively supports regional development. Currently, more than 600 people from Batangas and the neighboring areas work at the factory.

The Sto. Tomas plant is commemorating PCPPI's anniversary this month.  Its long-term dedication to people, the environment, and performance—creating a more robust and sustainable future for the Philippine beverage industry—is symbolized by the Sto. Tomas plant.

Every Drop Counts: PCPPI champions responsible water usage

Every Drop Counts: PCPPI champions responsible water usage

Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PCPPI), the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country, remains on course in its commitment to promote responsible water stewardship across its operations. In 2023, the organization’s overall water usage rate reduced by 5.4% from the previous year. This demonstrates PCPPI’s continued initiatives in ensuring proper water use, particularly in the production process.

PCPPI complies with global standards and as prescribed by PepsiCo in conducting water use audits that monitor consumption across its facilities. As much as 50% of the organization’s water use is dedicated to washers for returnable glass bottles. To maximize efficiency, equipment maintenance and updates are scheduled regularly. Training courses and policy refresher sessions on proper machine use are also conducted to keep technical teams informed on best practices and operating standards. These learning opportunities ensure that employees uphold safety and avoid production-related incidents.

Reducing the frequency Clean-In-Place (CIP) procedures in select facilities amplifies PCPPI’s efforts in reducing water use, Each CIP procedure uses an estimated 30 cubic meters of water to ensure cleanliness in the production area. Aside from extending operation hours, PCPPI is also optimizing CIP periods by using recycled water.

PCPPI has been a steadfast partner of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the local governments where it operates with the Adopt-A-River Program. This initiative allows organizations to look after and care for bodies of water in the areas where they operate. At present, PCPPI’s locations in Cebu, Pampanga, Davao, Leyte, Zamboanga and its home city of Muntinlupa have ongoing agreements with their respective local governments.

The bigger picture

March 22 marks World Water Day, an initiative of the United Nations (UN) that promotes responsible use of and better access to safe water. PCPPI remains committed to furthering its position as a champion of water stewardship, especially since the resource is vital to its operations. Aside from the programs mentioned earlier, the organization empowers its employees to develop smarter, more innovative ways to uphold global standards while ensuring that water usage is managed and reduced over time.

“At PCPPI, we are continuously improving our processes to make sure that our operations utilize resources wisely. Aside from arming our employees with the necessary trainings and industry best practices, we work closely with government stakeholders and community leaders in advocating a sustainable future.” ~Atty. Embracing sustainability in the workplace

In line with its commitments, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines, Inc. (PPCPI) continues to develop programs and methods to ensure that its employees can fully appreciate and embrace the value of sustainability as part of their lives. The exclusive manufacturer and distributor of well-loved brands such as Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and Gatorade, PCPPI holds itself accountable to three key pillars in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals: inclusive business, water stewardship, and circular economy.

“Today’s consumers exercise a keener sense of discernment, particularly when it relates to the values of the companies they support. For PCPPI, sustainability has always been at the heart of our operations. From encouraging process and technological innovation to employee education and engagement, we make a conscious effort to create positive impact on society, the environment, and the communities where we operate. Achieving sustainability is a shared responsibility—there’s no single team or department that carries it forward. It is the promise of creating a better future for generations to come drives us at PCPPI to champion this cause as we practice responsible operations.” ~Atty. Carina S. Bayon, PCPPI’s Chief Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Officer

Caring for the environment remains a top priority for PCPPI, and programs that encourage employees to adopt mindful habits is key. For example, waste segregation is practiced across its facilities as part of its guidelines. There are separate bins for recyclable and non-recyclable waste materials to allow the proper handling and recycling of items that may still be processed for alternative use.

Select PCPPI offices also utilize LED and motion sensor lights, as they consume less energy compared to regular incandescent lights. Through the annual Working Environment Measurement (a sampling method for measuring work environment or conditions) review conducted by its Environment, Health, Safety, and Security (EHSS) team, management gets to ensure that all of PCPPI offices and production facilities observe optimal working conditions for employee well-being and operational productivity.

PCPPI employees are also encouraged to bring their own reusable utensils at work, like stainless utensils and bamboo tumblers. Water refilling stations are also set up to minimize the use of plastic cups when employees refresh themselves throughout the day. Going digital also allows employees to reduce paper use, as emails, conferencing platforms, and other network-based channels facilitating information exchange and collaboration across PCPPI’s offices nationwide.

Atty. Bayon shared that aside from saving on expenses, implementing sustainability-focused policies in the workplace can contribute to employee health and well-being, as well as a shared sense of purpose.
