Expanded Mega Bigay Sustansya to help nourish more children nationwide

Malasakit has always been at the heart of Mega Global Corporation’s operations. In everything they do, they aim to bring positive change to the lives of Filipino families, especially in addressing the problem of malnutrition. This is the heart of the Mega Bigay Sustansya program, first launched in 2019.

With Mega Bigay Sustansya, through the Mega Tiu Lim Foundation (MTLF), Mega has helped nourish hundreds of less fortunate Filipino children, improving their health through well-balanced meals and better knowledge of basic nutrition despite the pandemic.

In its fourth year of transforming the lives of beneficiaries across the Philippines, Mega Bigay Sustansya has been substantially expanded, promising to bring positive change to even more people. Officially rolled out last Tuesday, June 28, at the Prime Hotel in Quezon City, Mega Bigay Sustansya Year 4 promises more sustainable feeding days, more coverage, more engagement, and more partners. The launch event was graced by representatives from partner agencies and organizations. Media people and mommy bloggers and influencers also joined the occasion.

To achieve its goal of program expansion, MTLF teamed up with the Department of Science and Technology, Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), and Reach Out Feed Philippines (ROFP). Meals and recipes will be co-created and nutrition workshops for the parents will be developed with DOST-FNRI; DSWD will assist in gathering volunteers and identifying areas where help with malnutrition is most needed, and; ROFP will help with meal preparation and distribution, LGU coordination, and beneficiary assessment.

MTLF, along with these partner agencies and organizations, expressed their commitment to helping alleviate malnutrition among Filipino children. The number of feeding days, from 60, has been increased to 120, consisting of two meals a day for six days in a week, for a total of 160,800 meals. Moreover, geographic coverage of the program has been expanded to cover seven locations, namely NCR and Regions 3, 4A, 4B, 6, 8, and 9. Beneficiaries will cover children aged four to 12 years old.

“Mega Bigay Sustansya Year 4 is a timely effort to help more families sustain proper nutrition for their children. We commend Mega Global’s efforts to address this important concern.” ~Jason Quejada, DSWD

On top of this, nutrition and meal management training for the parents and guardians of the beneficiaries will be conducted by DOST-FNRI, with the objective of program sustainability: health improvement not just through balanced meals, but also through proper knowledge of nutrition.

“Mega Bigay Sustansya provides us a good opportunity to engage families and teach them about the importance of feeding nutritious meals to their children.” ~Dr. Imelda Angeles-Agdeppa, Director IV and Scientist IV.

For MTLF and Mega as a whole, addressing the malnutrition problem in the country can be done by providing high-quality, nutritious, value-for-money products—not only for beneficiaries but for customers as well.

Marvin Tiu Lim, Mega’s Chief Growth and Development Officer

“The pandemic and global economic challenges have made it difficult for families from impoverished communities to provide nutritious meals for their children. We hope that Mega Bigay Sustansya will be of substantial help to Filipino families and will keep children nourished, so that they can attain good health which is so essential for their development.” ~Marvin Tiu Lim, Mega’s Chief Growth and Development Officer

“Mega Global’s relentless efforts to alleviate the malnutrition problem in the country will go a long way in building a generation of healthy Filipinos who can make a difference in their communities and the country.” ~Dawn Marie Cabigon of ROFP

DOST-FNRI stressed the importance of spreading knowledge on nutrition.

“Cooking Ina” Chef Hazel

The Pro Chef Gerick Manalo

To help Filipino mothers level up their cooking skills, Mega Prime held its first-ever Prime Mom Club: Kitchen Masterclass event last Saturday, May 28 with “Cooking Ina” Chef Hazel and The Pro Chef Gerick Manalo. The Mets Place in Makati was abuzz with excitement as eager moms checked out the colorful mini booths overflowing with everyone’s favorite Mega products. More moms joined the event virtually.

Corn Chowder with Pan-Seared Chicken

Chef Hazel introduced moms to Kusina Speak, a super interesting session that covered the basics of cooking, sauce making, and plating. The segment helped moms understand terms that will make them even better cooks – cooking terms such as searing, pan frying, saute, deep frying, and the like.  This was followed by “Ready, Set, Salang,” where Chef Hazel skillfully applied the cooking terms into an actual dish–Corn Chowder with Pan-Seared Chicken.

Herb & Garlic-Crusted Salmon with Truffle Bechamel Sauce

Adding to the enthusiasm of the audience, Chef Gerick then wowed the moms with more advanced cooking techniques and his cooking demo of a mouth-watering Herb & Garlic-Crusted Salmon with Truffle Bechamel Sauce – a tasty and healthy dish that he then plated to perfection.

For added fun and challenge, the moms were grouped into teams of 10, each team competing with one another for the best replication of Chef Hazel’s and Chef Gerick’s dishes. The chefs, of course, served as the judges. Quality, brand-new kitchenware was awarded to the members of the winning teams.

Also virtually present at the event was Prime Mom Club brand ambassador Marian Rivera who gamely welcomed the moms with some inspirational words that added to the positive vibe of the event.

Mega Prime and Prime Mom Club help mothers have a Paskong Easy Sarap with its holiday workshop

There’s no better time to go all out in celebration than Christmas. With family members coming together to celebrate what is the most loved holiday of the year, our Prime Moms are always looking forward to making it the most memorable celebration ever.

All over the world, it is known that the way we celebrate Christmas in the Philippines is truly unique, and some may say that Paskong Pinoy is the best. As such, we want to help make Filipino moms shine even brighter this season by going back to our roots by creating twists on well-loved Pinoy handa and decor. Mega Prime and Prime Mom Club made this happen by organizing the Paskong Easy Sarap workshop, which offered moms new recipes and a DIY holiday decor that will surely make for a memorable Christmas.

Headlining the event is Mega Prime’s newest products Young Corn, Nata de Coco Ube, Melon and Pineapple, added into new and exciting recipes by some of our favorite Prime Moms-- Mommy Connh Cruz, Chef Rosebud, and Prime Mom Club’s honorary member and Mega Prime’s brand ambassador, Marian Rivera Dantes. With their help, moms can now add Ube Macapuno Coolers, Melon Nata Coolers, Mongolian Beef, and Tropical Fruit Ref Cake to their holiday menu.

Stepping out of the kitchen for a bit, guests exchanged utensils for craft materials as they made their own parol with the help of workshop master, Ian Santos. Guests proudly showed off their finished stars to be hung at their homes, adding more to the holiday vibe.

Truly an afternoon of fun, guests were treated to some fun games and exciting prizes as they took an afternoon off from their homemaking duties, and enjoyed the company of their fellow moms.
