Every child that experiences love, support, and understanding as they grow up has a village of people who silently assist them along the way.
Care is shared between generations and communities in many Filipino households. It originates from parents who put up endless effort to provide, lolas who provide direction, titas who intervene when necessary, educators who offer support, and caregivers who treat kids like their own. Even though they are frequently invisible, these regular acts of support help children feel safe, confident, and like they belong.
McDonald's Philippines continues its Mother's Day celebration of shared motherhood with a new documentary film that honors those who help raise children alongside their parents.
A Daughter’s Moving Tribute
At the center of the documentary is Alyssa Segura, who talks about how the community that supported her growth and success as well as her mother's unshakable love shaped her life. In the movie, Alyssa organizes a small but heartfelt homage at McDonald's for the ladies who became a part of her journey, including her grandmother, aunts, teachers, and Yaya.
As the narrative progresses, the video considers how showing up, offering guidance, offering encouragement, and just being present during life's obstacles and significant events are common ways to demonstrate caring.
“Hindi magiging ganito si Alyssa kung wala yung tulong ng mga taong nasa paligid ko… Ako po ay nagpapasalamat sa inyo (Alyssa wouldn't be like this without the help of the people around me… I am grateful to all of you). I love you all. Thank you is not enough, but thank you for being there for me always. To my mom, thank you so much for bringing me into this beautiful world and introducing me to the most beautiful people.” ~Alyssa Segura
The documentary honors those who accompanied her in raising Alyssa. Alyssa also uses sign language to convey her appreciation.
In the end, the movie reminds us that being a mother is rarely done alone. Every child has a village of people behind them, and their love has a lasting effect.
“At McDonald’s Philippines, we honor everyone who is a part of this village. This Mother’s Day, we look forward to celebrating these women through shared meals and meaningful moments in our store.” ~Ada Almendras-Lazaro, Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald’s Philippines
