OPPO, Discovery, and the Department of Tourism Present a Short Film on the T’boli of Lake Sebu

Together with the Department of Tourism, OPPO and Discovery used the OPPO Reno14 Series 5G to document the Tboli community in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

The movie falls under the 2025 topic Celebrate the Moment and is a part of Discovery's Culture in a Shot program.  With a succinct, respectful depiction of T'boli creativity and everyday life, the initiative shifts its focus to the Philippines after featuring in 15 nations and areas.  This partnership is a first step toward presenting more local community tales.

The partnership's goal is to document and conserve the Tboli people's living cultural practices.  Combining activism and innovation, OPPO contributes by using the camera technology and AI imaging of the Reno14 Series 5G to capture the cultural heritage of the T'boli in remarkably accurate detail.

“At OPPO, we believe technology should go beyond convenience. It should empower communities and preserve heritage. This partnership with Discovery and the Department of Tourism allows us to do just that.” ~Joanarc Sales, Associate Marketing Director of OPPO Philippines

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples and DOT Region XII collaborated on the production.  To guarantee truth and respect, activities were carried out under the supervision of Tboli elders and with their free, prior, and informed agreement.

The subtleties that characterize T'boli artistry are preserved in part by these advances.  In addition to demonstrating technology, this project demonstrates OPPO's dedication to meaningful innovation, preservation of cultural heritage, and community development, guaranteeing that T'boli customs are honored and cherished.

Every tale captures the Tboli people's unwavering inventiveness, tenacity, and pride, from the revered craft of T'nalak weaving, which is led by the spirit of Fu Dalu, to the emblematic brasswork of Sesotunawa.  Beginning with the Tboli of Lake Sebu, OPPO and Discovery hope to inspire Filipinos to rediscover and enjoy their Indigenous history.  In order to maintain texture and detail without the need for bulky equipment, the OPPO Reno14 Series 5G was utilized on site for color-faithful photography, steady handheld recording, and incredibly clear low-light footage.

The short film will run on the 3D billboard at One Bonifacio High Street. Viewers can experience the piece in large format and learn more about the makers and their craft.
