Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo shares her secrets in keeping Luna healthy and happy!

Quarantine stories and parenting tips straight from Mommy Juday!

The health and safety of the whole family is every parent’s number one priority, especially during these unprecedented times. For our super mom, Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo, adapting to the new normal was never easy but with the help of her friends and a few experts around her, adjusting has now become a challenging yet delightful learning experience for her and her family.

Knowing the difficulties and struggles of being a mom, Mommy Juday shared some of her latest discoveries in making sure that her kids can safely grow healthy and happy while staying at home.

1. Gawing mas happy ang bawat moment na kasama si Chikiting
Mommy Juday as she explains the value of spending as much time with her kids during the quarantine period.

Given that we’re mostly staying at home, grab every opportunity to spend as much time with your chikitings by doing the things they enjoy, their passions, and the things they’re curious about. Immerse yourself in what they like to get to know them better and help them develop their skills along the way.

2. Spark the curiosity of your chikitings and learn with them
Being at home does not mean skipping on the chance to learn, children are naturally curious and this is the opportunity for you to explore and learn new things with them. Mommy Judy Ann values her children’s education and shares that she studies with her kids. She proudly admits that she even learns a lot from them!
“Ngayong araw-araw tayong magkakasama, ito yung time for us to nurture our kids more. I-enjoy natin yung bawat moment na kasama natin sila dahil our kids really look up to us, ginagaya nila tayo. We need to equip our children with basic survival skills tulad ng pagluluto, paglilinis, paglalaba, at paghuhugas ng pinggan para paglaki nila, hindi sila nakadepende sa ibang tao dahil naturuan natin sila at this early age. Sa panahon ngayon, we need to look for the right milk na makakatulong sa happy at tamang paglaki ng mga bagets natin. We want them to be ready and equipped with whatever they might face diba? Kaya ako I choose only NESTOGROW® 4 for Luna talaga. Malaki talaga ang pasalamat ko sa NESTOGROW® at sa tiwalang ibinigay nila sa amin ni Luna. Sa totoo lang, NESTOGROW® talaga yung produktong pinagkakatiwalaan ko, especially when it comes to my children. It was really a collaborative effort since konti lang kami and wala din kaming masyadong gamit . But it was fun working with friends and seeing Luna really happy and energetic during the shoot! This is something that will remain very memorable for Luna, and for me as well kasi we were able to rise above the challenge and adapt to change. I’m just so happy to see Luna happily doing things and adjusting to change at a very young age.~Mommy Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo
3. Gawing family bonding ang gawaing bahay
Use this time to teach your kids about household chores by slowly introducing small tasks they can do around the house. In the case of Mommy Juday, Luna enjoys helping her cook, and they even started planting their own veggies together:

She also knows the importance of teaching her kids the skills they need to be more independent as they grow up.

4. Panatilihing malusog at masaya ang mga chikiting with the right nutrition partner
Choose the right nutrition partner which can always provide all the nutrients that your chikitings need for them to grow happy and healthy. Mommy Judy Ann also believes that boosting our kids’ immune system will be their very first line of defense against illnesses. By providing their tummies with complete nutrients, they can be strong enough to fight off germs and viruses.

Mommy Juday also talked about how her trusted milk brand is enriched with L COMFORTIS® which improves the absorption of nutrients in children’s tummies and no added table sugar -- ensuring that your kids get the #KumpletongNutriTIYAN they need to #GrowHappy and healthy!

Mommy Judy Ann’s NESTOGROW® journey
Judy Ann and her youngest daughter Luna officially joined the NESTOGROW® family this year as the brand’s newest endorsers alongside Mommy Melai Cantiveros-Francisco and Mela.

Working with NESTOGROW® has been such a great blessing for Judy Ann this year. It was just a perfect match from the beginning as she automatically fell in love with the brand as it helped show great improvement for Luna.

To further shine light on the importance of gut health, the newest mom and daughter duo starred in NESTOGROW’s TV commercial where Judy Ann explains to Luna na ang health ng katawan ay nagsisimula sa tiyan!

With the release of the TVC, Mommy Judy Ann lets us in on a secret that the whole production was done right in their home with just a camera and the help of a few friends. It was a different experience being used to having a full production set. For Judy Ann, the whole experience is really something she’ll be treasuring since they were able to create something despite the challenges brought by the new normal.

Learn and spend time with your kids during this quarantine period by checking out NESTGROW’s latest commercial through this LINK and find out why you should definitely not forget about the importance of the tiyan!

Visit NESTOGROW® Facebook page for more updates and you can also purchase NESTOGROW® 4 on their official stores at Lazada and Shopee!

Carbohydrates and Exercise: Why You Need Carbs If You’re Active

Brooke Ellison, MS, RDN – Sports Performance Dietitian, Herbalife Nutrition

Healthy carbs have a place in healthy diets—plus, they're a crucial part of working out and living well. In addition to protein and fat, carbohydrates are one of the three macronutrients in food, and you need them for energy and fuel. When you exercise, you need something to start your engine and keep it going, and that something often comes in the form of healthy carbs.

Balanced nutrition is important for exercise, but carbohydrates are especially key for maintaining peak performance during physical activity. In fact, carbohydrates are the most important source of fuel in an athlete’s diet. Anyone who’s active and moves their body is an athlete; therefore, no athlete should avoid carbs.

How Do Carbs Help with Exercise and Performance?
There’s a common misconception that all carbs are bad, without considering the fact that there are many healthy carbs to choose from. Here are the top five reasons why you shouldn’t fear or avoid carbs.

Carbohydrates fuel the brain and muscles.
Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for our brains and bodies to function properly; they provide fuel for the central nervous system and energy for working muscles. Think of it as fuel for your car: our bodies store carbs in our muscles as glycogen, which is then converted to glucose when you need it.

Carbs help delay fatigue, sustaining you through prolonged workouts or competitive sports.

Carbohydrates prevent muscle breakdown.
By eating enough carbohydrates throughout the day, protein is free to do its main job: repair and rebuild muscle tissue. If we limit carbohydrates, the protein will be needed as an energy source and not be utilized to build lean muscles.

Adequate carbohydrate intake can prevent muscle breakdown from glycogen depletion, especially if you’re working to maintain or build your muscles.

Carbohydrates should make up the majority of the diet.
As a sports dietitian, I often recommend a high-carb diet for athletes who need a lot of endurance and stamina, in order to sustain the daily demands of training and exercise. Of course, needs vary based on the individual and the type of exercise or sports they engage in.

Individuals engaging in a general fitness program can usually meet their needs by consuming a balanced diet of 45-55% of calories from carbohydrates. That is about 3-5 grams of carbohydrate per kilogram body weight, per day.

Carbohydrates before a workout will boost your performance.
If you have ever felt sluggish or low on energy during a workout, you probably didn’t fuel up with sufficient carbs. Fueling up before exercise helps maintain optimal levels of blood glucose for our muscles.

To avoid poor performance, choose pre-workout snacks that are easy to digest, such as bananas, an English muffin with jam, or a granola bar. Foods high in fiber and fat can cause gastrointestinal distress and should be avoided close to exercise.

Carbohydrates accelerate recovery.
Consuming carbohydrates after exercise helps replenish the energy stores that were just utilized during strenuous exercise. Activity longer than one hour will require extra attention to carbohydrate refueling.

Muscles need protein and carbohydrates to properly recover and become stronger. A post-exercise recovery shake with a 3:1 ratio of carbohydrates to protein is the perfect way to refuel. Try blending Herbalife24® Rebuild Strength with a banana and 10 ounces of milk to optimize your recovery.

Maintaining an optimal diet has many benefits to athletes, including consistent performance and enhanced recovery. Carbohydrates rightfully receive a great deal of attention in sports nutrition.

Ayala Foundation’s to provide food assistance for 10,000 families through ‘Project #BuyAni’

BuyAni GenSan
As part of its continuing efforts to support vulnerable communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ayala Foundation recently kicked off Project #BuyAni, a food assistance initiative for 10,000 families in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

This food assistance initiative seeks to support 10,000 families in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, likewise providing a source of income to local farmers and community partners as essential goods/products will be directly sourced from them. Project #BuyAni seeks not just to provide food for affected communities, but also to source these food items and other essential goods from local farmers and community partners. This way, local farmers and enterprises continue to have a source of income during the pandemic.

To date, Project BuyAni has served 1,426 families in Luzon, 300 families in the Visayas, and 1,262 families in Mindanao, and is scheduled to conduct other food distribution activities until August. The project has reached the following communities:
  • Datu Piang
  • Maguindanao
  • Cagayan de Oro City
  • General Santos City
  • Calauan
  • Laguna
  • El Nido
  • Palawan

  • Bago City
BuyAni Cavite
The most recent distribution was in Barangay Ma-ao, Bago City, focusing on 100 families of senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and motorcycle drivers. The community partner for the activity was the Bago City Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative. The city government, the barangay council, and the Ayala Busi-ness Club Bacolod also actively supported the initiative.
In Iloilo City, the distribution was held on July 24 in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, with 200 beneficiaries. The relief packs contained vegetables and fruits from the KASAMA Multi-Purpose Cooperative, with bags/bayongs woven by Tagbak Mat Weavers from Concepcion, Iloilo. The Ayala Business Club also provided valuable support in terms of logistics and local coordination.

BuyAni Iloilo
In Calauan, Laguna, 800 food packs were distributed to members of the Inang Kalikasan Agriculture Cooperative, on-site security and Makati Development Corporation personnel, and other families living in the Southville 7 relocation community. Each bag contained locally sourced vegetables, dressed chicken, rice, and eggs, using up-cycled flour bags made by the parents of students from CENTEX, Ayala Foundation’s education program.

In General Santos City, 400 families coming from the farthest barangays and the indigenous B’laan community received food aid.

In Cagayan de Oro City, food distribution focused on 400 families from the following vulnerable sectors—the Badjao, PWDs, children in conflict with the law, the homeless, and rebel returnees.

BuyAni CDO

In Datu Piang, Maguindanao, food assistance was provided to 60 families living barangay Montay, a weaving community known for beautiful inaul textiles.

BuyAni Maguindanao

In El Nido, Palawan, woven bags sourced from the artisan women weavers were put together by local volunteers, with produce sourced from local farmers.

For more information, visit www.ayalafoundation.org.

Project #BuyAni is scheduled to conduct other food distribution activities until August.

Funded by a grant from the Macquarie Group Foundation, Project #BuyAni seeks not just to provide food for affected communities, but also to source these food items and other essential goods from local farmers and community partners. This way, local farmers, and enterprises continue to have a source of income during the pandemic.

Bibs Manila for fun and colorful OOTDs for baby

The local brand was started by Kit and Kate Joaquin, who are also proud parents to now 6-year-old Kiel. Make your baby’s OOTDs fun and extra colorful with personalized baby bibs from Bibs Manila, a new online business that offers a selection of personalized bibs that are totally cute, quirky, and functional.

"Bibs Manila was born out of my love for personalized items. While I was on maternity leave six years ago, I would shop for items for my baby online. Most of the personalized bibs I found were embroidered and so delivery took a while. That sparked an idea for us." ~Kate Joaquin, owner of Bibs Manila
Bibs Manila has hundreds of fun designs that are available on their website. Browse and shop for designs from flowers and mermaids to dinosaurs and airplanes and many more! You can also create your own design aside from putting your baby's name on the bibs for a personal touch.

If you have artistic leanings, you can also opt to send in your own designs that Bibs Manila can then turn into bibs just for you. Bibs Manila can also help you create a design of your choosing. What’s more, the bibs are made of high-quality fabric, durable enough for regular use.

If you happen to know a couple who is expecting a new addition to their family, these baby bibs make a great gift, too. Give them the gift of 7 bibs – one for every day of the week – and you can get an adorable gift box to go with it.

To shop and view their collection, visit their website www.bibsmanila.com or follow on Instagram. Bibs Manila ships nationwide in the Philippines and internationally in select countries.
