Cebu Pacific is the largest Airbus A330neo Operator in Asia-Pacific

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines’ leading airline, has reached a historic milestone as it becomes the first local carrier to operate a 100-strong fleet with the delivery of its latest aircraft — a brand new A330neo.

The A330neo is also the 12th aircraft of its kind to join CEB’s fleet, reinforcing the airline’s position as the largest A330neo operator in the Asia-Pacific.

The 459-seater aircraft, which arrived in Manila from Airbus’ facility in Toulouse, France, is the second of four A330neos expected to join CEB’s fleet this year — the first of which arrived on March 28. CEB is expecting a total of seven aircraft to be delivered in 2025.

“Reaching 100 aircraft is more than a milestone — it reflects our unwavering commitment to make air travel accessible to more Filipinos. With a larger fleet, we’re able to operate more efficiently, enhance connectivity across the country and the region, and pass on the benefits of scale through even lower fares.”  ~Xander Lao, CEB President and Chief Commercial Officer

AirAsia Philippines Now Serving Taipei with 17 Flights a Week

In response to increased travel demand between Manila and Taipei, AirAsia Philippines increased its flight frequency to Taiwan's capital from 14 to 17 times weekly beginning in July.

The move comes after AirAsia Philippines posted a good average load factor of 85% on its Taipei route, indicating strong and sustained guest interest, with Taipei ranking among AirAsia Philippines' top-performing overseas destinations.

From January to June 2025, the airline flew over 70,000 visitors to Taipei, a figure that is projected to rise as visa-free entry for Filipino travelers staying in Taiwan for 14 days is extended until July 31, 2026.

“The additional flights come at the perfect time as we enter Q3 and gear up for the peak travel season. This move gets us ready for the expected surge in demand during the ‘Ber’ months, when many Filipinos head to Taipei to enjoy its cooler climate from September through February. It also allows us to serve our guests better by offering more options and flexibility whether they’re flying for leisure, business, or to reconnect with family and friends.” ~Suresh Bangah, AirAsia Philippines President and CEO

In addition to increasing flight frequencies, AirAsia Philippines is strengthening its 15 + 1 fleet to accommodate surging demand on domestic and international routes, reiterating its commitment to providing accessible and dependable travel for all.

Cebu Pacific Showcases Filipino Culture at Australia’s Bondi Festival

Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB), the Philippines' leading carrier, has introduced the warmth and richness of Filipino culture to Australia with the opening of the Cebu Pacific Travel Beach Bar at Bondi Beach, a first-of-its-kind heated beach bar that offers visitors to the annual Bondi Festival a unique way to experience the Philippines.

The travel beach bar is surrounded by standing heaters that create a pleasant environment evocative of the Philippine climate, providing the ideal retreat from Australia's cold season.  It also serves Filipino cuisine, music, and a design inspired by the bahay kubo, bringing a taste of the Philippines to Bondi Beach, one of Australia's most renowned locations.

Until July 31, 2025, CEB travelers can purchase one-way all-in tickets to Australia for as little as PHP 7,999.  August 1–December 31, 2025, is the ideal travel window for vacations.

In a groundbreaking partnership that demonstrates CEB's dedication to introducing Filipino fun to the global scene, the travel beach bar is the first airline to be officially recognized as an airline partner of the Bondi Festival.   The Cebu Pacific Travel Beach Bar is open to festival attendees through July 20.

The travel beach bar expands on CEB's Fly to Your Happy Philippines campaign, which is part of the airline's ongoing global initiative to encourage tourists to experience the nation's varied islands in their own special way.

Bondi Beach is a popular beach just outside of central Sydney that draws both locals and visitors due to its expansive sand, surf culture, and relaxed vibe.  The Bondi Festival, a celebration of the arts, live entertainment, and culinary experiences, is held every winter. CEB's travel beach bar with a tropical motif has made it even more thrilling.

With four weekly flights to Melbourne and daily flights between Manila and Sydney, Filipinos can travel to Bondi Beach and other well-known Australian locations.  Year-round exploration is possible in places like Melbourne's Flinders Street Station and Federation Square, Sydney's Bondi Beach, and the Opera House.

CEB launched its Manila-Sydney route in 2014, followed by Manila-Melbourne in 2018. The airline has flown over 250 million passengers as it continues to offer affordable and accessible flights.

Sony Introduces the FX2 Compact Camera, Expanding Cinema Line’s Versatility for Creatives

The new FX2 has the look and operability of Cinema Line cameras with the ability to shoot high resolution photos and comes equipped with an articulating eyepiece.

FX2 Compact Camera Pre-Order Promotion

Sony is proud to announce today the latest addition to its established Cinema Line family, the FX2 (model ILME-FX2). The FX2 will offer a seamless entry point into the broader Cinema Line range, giving greater cinematic expression to independent creators, or crews needing a versatile camera.

"The FX2 was created based on user feedback and is engineered with unique features to support filmmaking, a new eyepiece and improved usability for versatile production needs. The FX2 is intended to continue the Cinema Line’s goal of preserving authentic emotion in every shot and empower creators across all areas of content production." ~Kanta Yamamoto, Director of Digital Imaging Division, Entertainment, Technology & Services Business Group, Sony Electronics

FX2 Features: Full-frame Filmmaking and Stills capabilities

Sony is proud to announce today the latest addition to its established Cinema Line family, the FX2 (model ILME-FX2). The FX2 will offer a seamless entry point into the broader Cinema Line range, giving greater cinematic expression to independent creators, or crews needing a versatile camera.

The camera is equipped with Dual Base ISO for S-Log 3 of 800 and 4000, enabling optimal image quality across varied lighting conditions. The FX2 ISO sensitivity for video can be expanded up to 102400, making it ideal for low-light environments. The camera also supports multiple recording formats for flexible post-production workflows and records in 4:2:2 10-bit All-Intra and supports formats like XAVC S-I DCI 4K at 24.00p, among others.

The FX2 benefits from an extended shooting capability, with up to 13 hours of continuous recording in 4K 60p2 , thanks to its internal cooling fan and effective heat dissipation structure. The FX2 also offers variable frame rate settings, allowing up to 60 fps in 4K (for a maximum 2.5x slow-motion effect) and up to 120 fps in Full HD (for up to 5x slow motion). It supports Log shooting in Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, and Flexible ISO modes, offering versatile workflows for different production needs. To further the cinematic expression of the camera, creatives can import up to 16 user LUTs for on-camera preview for video, enabling precise colour monitoring on set.

Filmmakers can also easily and quickly create in-camera cinematic looks, with S-CinetoneTM set as the default, along with a range of Picture Profile and Creative Look presets. A desqueeze display function is available, supporting both 1.3x and 2.0x anamorphic lenses for accurate framing.

Improved usability for comfortable solo operation

The FX2 features the same compact, flat-top design as Sony’s Cinema Line FX3 and FX30 cameras, ensuring familiarity and compatibility across setups. Built-in mounting points (UNC 1/4-20 x3) support a cageless configuration and ability to mount on a tripod, offering greater flexibility for rigging. A top handle (model XLR-H1) enhances mobility and control, especially during handheld or dynamic shooting. Its lightweight, portable build – measuring 129.7 x 77.8 x 103.7 mm (W × H × D) and weighing around 679 grams – makes it ideal for solo operators or small crew productions.

The camera offers advanced focus features designed for precision and creativity. Its new Real-time Recognition AF delivers fast and reliable performance, with improved accuracy for human subjects, although its intelligent subject recognition extends to animals, birds, vehicles, and insects, with an Auto mode available for effortless detection. For even more control, the camera includes tools like focus breathing compensation, AF Assist, and customisable autofocus transition speed and sensitivity, giving creators the flexibility to fine-tune focus for expressive, cinematic imagery.

The camera comes with Active Mode and Dynamic active Mode, new to Cinema Line. Both modes are designed to ensure smooth and steady handheld shooting.

The FX2 Auto Framing feature automatically crops and tracks a subject to keep them in a prominent position when the camera is mounted on a tripod, producing footage that looks like it was shot by an experienced operator. The Framing Stabiliser function automatically keeps the subject in the same position within the frame, which can be useful, for example, when the camera operator is moving alongside the subject.

From a still image perspective, the camera features an additional log shooting option with a newly added ‘Log shooting’ menu. This feature allows creators to shoot high-resolution 33MP stills, optimised for colour grading in post-production3. The FX2 also offers smooth operation with a MOVIE/STILL mode lever, allowing for a quick switchover between still and movie shooting. Depending on the selected mode, the displayed menu items will automatically adjust. Additionally, mode selection is made easy with a long press of the Fn button, which recalls and changes the shooting mode.

FX2 Features: Improved but familiar hardware inherited from Sony’s cinema cameras

For enhanced immersion while the user is shooting, the camera features a new high-resolution 3.68-million-dot tiltable EVF4, which comes with a viewing angle optimised for video production and comes bundled with a deep eye piece. It also includes a vari-angle 3.0-type touchscreen LCD for easy framing from any position. The controls are intuitively placed on the top panel and around the grip, with tally lamps for recording indication. A customisable “BIG6” (home) screen displays frequently used parameters such as FPS, ISO, shutter speed (angle/speed), Look presets, white balance, iris or ND filter status. In response for the growing amount of content shot in vertical 16: 9 for social media platform purposes, the FX2 also has vertical information displayed while shooting. Additionally, the handle-included model (ILME-FX2) comes with two XLR/TRS terminals and 3.5 mm stereo (mic) mini jack enabling professional 4-channel, 24-bit digital audio input.

The camera offers extensive expandability and connectivity options, including an HDMI Type-A terminal capable of outputting up to 4K 60p 4:2:2 10-bit video and 16-bit RAW5 for high-end recording and monitoring. For seamless data transfer and remote control, it supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz6) as well as wired LAN via a compatible adapter7. Additionally, the USB Type-C®︎ port enables SuperSpeed USB 10Gbps data transfers and supports USB Power Delivery (PD), while built-in USB and network streaming support enables live broadcasting and remote production workflows8.

Social responsibility

Aligned with Sony's ambitious 'Road to Zero' initiative, this product supports the company's vision for achieving a zero environmental footprint by 2050. The manufacturing process reflects this commitment through facilities powered entirely by renewable energy sources9. The camera system incorporates comprehensive accessibility options including a Screen Reader function10 and Display Magnification to support visually impaired users across an expanded range of menu items. Additional intuitive controls enhance usability for all shooters, featuring:
  • Real-time recognition autofocus that reduces manual adjustments
  • Streamlined touch interface operations for direct menu navigation

SM Book Nook Launches Nationwide Book Donation Drive

As part of the SM Book Nook Book Donation Drive, which will begin in all SM malls nationwide on July 7, 2025, SM Supermalls, through its flagship literacy program SM Book Nook, is encouraging communities nationwide to help ignite the love of reading by contributing used books in honor of its 40th anniversary.

“Under the Same Sky: Share the Magic of Stories” is the topic of this program, which invites mall patrons, tenants, partners, and communities to contribute high-quality books that will help readers from all backgrounds, families, and children.

Some of the volumes will be donated to the National Library of the Philippines and its affiliated libraries, while others will help SM Book Nook reading hubs spread to further SM malls and partner institutions around the country.

“SM Book Nook was created to be more than a space—it’s a movement. With every book donated, we create ripples of knowledge, imagination, and inclusion. We believe that stories can bridge generations and uplift communities.” ~Ms. Shereen T. Sy, pioneer of the SM Book Nook program under SM Cares

The goal of the initiative is to gather 40,000 books in honor of SM's 40th anniversary.  With specially made donation boxes positioned in key mall areas, each SM mall will act as an official drop-off station. Starting July 7, 2025, mall communities are invited to drop off pre-loved books in good condition—complete, clean, dry, and free from major damage.

Empower Communities Through Your Book Donations

Academic and reference books, children's and young adult books, fiction and non-fiction books, as well as well-maintained magazines and comics, are all accepted.

The campaign goes beyond fundraising to emphasize SM Cares' long-term goal of transforming every SM mall into a center for inclusive education, community involvement, and hope—particularly for young readers and future leaders.

SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals are the three Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that this effort supports.

Rafael Jasper Vicencio, President of Gamemaster Integrated Inc., game provider of GameZone, delivering his message for the GTCC: Summer Showdown.

Rafael Jasper Vicencio, President of Gamemaster Integrated Inc., shared in his opening remarks how the tournament became a momentous event for the Filipino Tongits game scene.

“Just last year, we launched the Tongits Champion Cup. This was a pioneering moment, the very first esports-style tournament for the traditional card game of Tongits in the Philippines. It marked a significant milestone, bringing a new level of competition and excitement to the traditional Filipino card game. Now, in 2025, we have expanded and rebranded, and we proudly present GTCC. This is more than just a tournament.” ~Mr. Rafael Jasper Vicencio, President of Gamemaster Integrated Inc.,

The tournament began by qualifying in-app players through the Tongits Free Multi-Table Tournament, available on the GameZone app, which ran from April 25 to May 16.

The five-day tournament kicked off with players randomly grouped into three brackets. Participants were ranked based on total points accumulated after three 20-round games. The top players advanced to the promotional round on Day 2, facing off in upper and lower bracket groups.

On Day 3, qualified players were randomly reassigned into new groups. The top performers from the previous round proceeded to the upper bracket, while the remaining players joined the lower bracket. Players in both brackets competed for top positions, with only five from the upper bracket and four from the lower bracket advancing to the semi-finals. The competition intensified as the nine semi-finalists battled it out in the group stage during a 60-round game on Day 4.

A life-changing match

Benigno De Guzman Casayuran, a 62-year-old retiree from Candelaria, Quezon Province, won this year’s GTCC: Summer Showdown.

Behind this success and life-changing story is the inspiring narrative of Casayuran’s efforts to turn his and his family’s dreams into reality, with the support of his community.

In an exclusive interview, Casayuran tearfully shared why he joined GTCC, said, “...para sa pagpapa-chemotherapy ng misis ko”

Casayuran is a retiree and former fisherman who lives a simple life in a humble town in Candelaria, Quezon Province. He recalled his younger years and shared that he was a high school graduate who pursued a Commerce degree in college. However, due to financial difficulties, he was unable to finish his studies.

Years later, he got married and was blessed with two children. His eldest, a daughter, now has a family of her own, while his youngest, a son, is currently a second-year college student taking up an electrical course.

Recently, his 65-year-old wife was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer—his primary reason for joining GTCC. It was a twist of fate, as the family heavily relies on the ₱2,000 monthly pension he and his wife receive. They also run a small sari-sari store, which helps cover their daily needs. However, it’s not enough, and they were forced to seek government support for medical expenses. At present, Casayuran is his wife’s full-time caregiver.

Despite his challenges, Casayuran fondly recalled how he began playing Tongits. In search of leisure, he started playing the game socially, placing small bets ranging from ₱5 to ₱10. When neighbors introduced him to the online version of Tongits, his curiosity grew. He began studying the game more seriously and was eventually introduced to GameZone, which gave him the opportunity to qualify for the GTCC: Summer Showdown.

Initially, he only hoped to make it to the top 84, but he was more than blessed to have secured a spot in the championship.

When asked about his initial reaction after outsmarting his two opponents, he expressed his overwhelming joy through tears.

Casayuran hugged tournament runner-up Dacalos in tears after winning the final match.

"Napakasaya, di po ako makapaniwala. Una ko pong pinasalamatan ay si Lord. Niyakap ko pa po ang aking dalawang kalaban at nagpasalamat din po ako sa kanila. Nung inawardan po ako, kinukurot ko ang sarili ko, tinatanong ko kung nananaginip ba ako—pero hindi pala. Wag agad magexpect ng malaki. Bale, responsible gaming lamang po. At sabi nga po ni Vice Ganda, 'Gambling is not an option to solve your financial problems.' Maglaro po tayo ng responsable at wag nating iasa sa gambling ang mga pangangailangan natin sa buhay." ~Mr. Benigno De Guzman Casayuran, a 62-year-old player from Quezon Province, the GameZone Tablegame Champions Cup (GTCC): Summer Showdown Champion

With his life-changing winnings, Casayuran plans to allocate funds primarily for his wife's treatment and recovery, support his two children, and purchase a car for family travels around the Philippines.
